The official game’s Twitter account tweeted a post that said Marvel Rivals Season 4 would be ending on November 14th at 9 AM UTC which was a confirmation that there will be no such thing as a “quiet ending.” The announcement was made players fighting and proving their strengthd, and above all, to keep on igniting the battlefield! Still, the supposed quiet ending has sparked an unexpected uproar among the players.
So, the official tweet was mostly in line with what everyone would have expected. Season ending, fight till the very last moment, and all that. But the responses to it… they could be viewed as a completely different story. The comments section is a mix of chaos, and players are quite literally screaming for the Season 5 trailer that is still to be released. One user, mingomango, even went so far as to say it was “people literally begging on their knees.” That’s quite a strong commitment to uncovering what comes next.
The players’ dissatisfaction is so much out front that it is hard not to see it everywhere in the comments. User Geo made his point very clear that he wasn’t joking around when he demanded “POST THE DAMN TRAILER NOW!” and provided a GIF of a person looking very impatient. Moreover, Harlequeer initially posted “Where is it…?” with a sad face emoji which is a perfect indication of the whole community’s sentiment right now. The drama of suspense is really torturous for these people.
I, however, was almost on the verge of forgetting the main point… Oh, yes! The trailer drama is just a part of it. Another argument about the game’s balance and team compositions which is getting very heated is going on. User Oz was involved in a “ping-pong” game with different-rates-of-character-viability and win rates, specifically highlighting Black Widow players who are struggling to even attain a 40% win rate while, on the other hand, heroes such as Hawkeye and Jean Grey seem to be enjoying the win rate chart. The balance debate escalated to such an extent that one gamer branded the other “the epitome of that meme about over-competitive players being mad annoying to casual players.” That was a bit too severe.
The professional gaming scene seems to be having its own separate crisis. User Rw2td was mournfully asking for a role queue in ranked mode and complaining about matchmaking that paired him “with inbred DPS mains that can’t even get single-digit kills.” At the same time, a user going by “No one” was sharing her/his frustration about the Silver rank being impossible to climb because “the teammates have no idea what team play is and keep going in one at a time.” Frankly, it doesn’t sound too different from the usual competitive shooter experience but still very annoying.
Character requests keep pouring in from all over. Cosmic Queen wants Phoenix to be able to move objects with her mind and Rogue to be uncovered, which of course is a popular demand considering the number of people who are curious about new characters. There is even serious Marvel lore discussion about whether Rogue should keep her powers from Carol Danvers permanently or that would be too overpowered. Wow! People are really mindful of the comic fidelity.
And then there are the matchmaking problems… people simply will not stop voicing their complaints about them. EOMM (Engagement Optimized Matchmaking) is the most often referred to culprit for the dreadfully poor matchmaking in the comments. The community believes it’s creating uneven matches and teh ruining of ranked play. It’s the same old story again and again – players feel like the system is working against them instead of delivering fair matches.
What is most astonishing is that the community is somehow divided about the balance changes. Some players, like AsessiinoO, are saying that the developers should be praised for making changes that preserve the freshness of the meta and that people should simply “read patch notes or go to the practice range.” On the other hand, there are players complaining that they are not able to master the characters before they become a totally different version due to nerfs or buffs and hence are demanding an end to the constant variations.
Another divergence of opinion is the player count, with one user claiming that the game has lost its audience and the other arguing that having just 100k players on Steam is already “very fine for a hero shooter.” It’s that classic panic of the gaming community that comes with the realization that a game is not breaking records, even when the numbers are actually pretty strong.
But amidst this chaos, the players’ love for Marvel Rivals is still very much visible. If they are this upset about the missing trailer, it only indicates how much they care about the game’s future. The character cries, the fiery balance discussions, the competitive discontent – all of it leads us to a game community that is very much in tune with the game’s progress. Even toxicity, which was noted by a user, is a PlayStation and Xbox issue that affects many competitive games.
