Team NINJA has disclosed additional character information for Ninja Gaiden 4, which has made a big impression on the gamers. The developers’ tweet talked about Misaki and described him as “one of the chief strategists of the Raven Clan,” who is going to support Seori in breaking the Dark Dragon’s seal. The developers showed their trust in Misaki by saying, “he is highly competent and trustworthy,” even though he is a fresh recruit to the clan. Nevertheless, the gaming community is very skeptical about the statement regarding the trustworthiness of Misaki.
At first, players were not really buying it. SkepticalUser (@kaisersouljr) said explicitly “I wouldn’t say trustworthy after what’s happened with seori💀” which… well, this is not a good sound cue. Another user, Balder998, simply said “I hate this guy (those who completed the story know why)” which is basically the gaming world saying “if you know, know.”
The replies are absolutely hilarious. FATAL17_ only asked Team NINJA to “Clarify what ‘Trustworthy’ is😀” and the smiling emoji they used is by no means a real smiling one. And AyarUcho asked them “Definitely trustworthy?” in a manner that implies they are calling out the very obvious nonsense.
The plot thickens when players defend the guy?? Somebodyfoil argued that “he’s absolutely the most trustworthy ally who does the stuff that needs to be done when Yakumo chickens out.” They confessed that he might be “dumb as a brick” but at least you can trust him. APUKAMI1 concurred, labeling him “the most reliable member of the team” and that they are looking forward to the release of his tragic backstory.
Character design is one aspect that is receiving attention as well. A lot of people said he looks like Souke Aizen from Bleach, which if you are familiar with that series…that is not exactly a compliment in terms of his trustworthiness. TeohWilliam2 said that their guess about him was “a good guy in disguise” from his very first entrance, meaning he is in fact bad/evil right from the start. They even termed it as “Bleach: Aiden vibes,” and that is very likely to be the case.
In addition, there seems to be conflicting signals regarding the character’s outfit – Pachiku93 asked, “Is that a cape or a coat?” which is definitely a valid question. And Senlin_Fa pointed out “A gaijin with a Japanese name,” which does seem a little suspicious for a ninja clan member.
While all this is going on, the Ninja Gaiden community is using the character reveal as an opportunity to voice their concerns about the game even in a broader context. Lackesterlacky was very straightforward, asking, “Why did you guys lie about Not replacing Ryu? Why did you lie about respecting him?” They are really upset at the fact that Ryu Hayabusa has only four levels throughout the game that is supposed to be his own series, and that his weapons are DLC. Ajsly7 warned, “ppl won’t tolerate it a second time” if Ryu is pushed to the side again in the next sequel.
But not all feedback is negative – SebastianKster4 considered the character bios “awsome” and Gro3_ wrote “misaki looks ready to go.” Clearly, there is some appreciation for the character work that Team NINJA is doing, even if it is through the more subtle way of this particular character’s description.
The entire discussion about the trustworthyness of Misaki has prompted players to share their gameplay experiences as well. Mohammed Haque shared his experience “When that plot twist happened I was like whatttttt, makes sense why Ryu wanted to take his ass out so quick🤣🤣🤣” which indicates that Misaki’s story arc takes some wild turns. DrPastaLeg still thinks that “Ryu should have obliterated him along with yakumo in the 1st encounter.”
A few players have started to think about the future contents. Shabbotrapist called for “a toggle for Ryu’s grip of murder and add dark dragon Yakumo skin,” while jimmnator wants to “change Yakumo’s Dragon blade to the blade of the archfiend.” And technically, there are complaints as well – redslayerknows mentioned memory leak issues in the PS5 pro mode that caused the game to freeze during long play sessions.
It is quite incredible how a simple character bio tweet can generate such a wide range of reactions. There are players who are noticing the story implications, others who are critiquing the game’s direction, some who are just making Bleach comparisons.
