PlayStation has made an unanticipated announcement concerning Loulan: The Cursed Sand, a PS5 action-RPG title in which you act as a skeletal warrior with sand abilities set in old China. An unveiling teaser shows fighting and tech that are fantastically engaging and the whole gaming community is already so much thrilled about the game.

The main question is what Loulan: The Cursed Sand is about? It is an entirely different action-RPG wherein you are a skeleton with the gift of sand manipulation and the scene is set in China based on the historical narration of the country. When the developers delivered their message, the LoulanGame account stated “We are the developer team for Loulan: The Cursed Sand. We are very delighted to share our game’s unveiling trailer here!” They even mentioned that a considerable number of the team members had earlier been part of studios like Santa Monica Studio, FromSoftware, and PlatinumGames, which also partly accounts for combat being so well done at this stage.

The gaming community is literally raving about it in the comments of the video. One player called it “Prince of Persia meets Atlas Fallen” while the other remarked that it looks like “dark souls met dune and i’m here for it.” Comparisons are all over the place and they range from God of War to Ninja Gaiden to Titan Quest. However, the consensus is ‘this is fire’, as many commenters have pointed out.

It was the special sand dragon that caused the public to become ecstatic. Fake World VR commented “Sand dragon looks kinda 🔥 Actually into this đź‘€” and the developers even expressed their gratitude towards them for recognizing the dragon. This is a great way to interact with the audience.

Now, what is not too surprising as this is the China Hero Project, Sony’s program to support Chinese game developers. One viewer expressed “PlayStation China Hero Project 👀🔥” and honestly? The China Hero Project has been pouring out very good games lately. Another gamer even said “The only new releases that I look forward to are the Chinese ones. China Hero Project can easily dominate your whole first-party studio lineup.” Quite a compliment that is indeed.

Conscious Gamer expressed that the fighting scenes looked super fun who said “I could hardly believe how captivating the combat looks. I really wish the final product would be as great as the hype I have now.” And Makko AI perfectly summed up the overall feeling with “A sand-wielding skeleton in ancient China, That’s the kind of weird I’m here for 🏜️💀”.

Gamers have already started asking for wishlists and physical copies. ENKS GAMING posted “When will I be able to wishlist it on the PlayStation Store??” while another user simply said “Give me a physical copy” and yet another one was all caps yelling “PS5 PHYSICAL COPY AND I’LL BUY”. The demand is very clear.

It seems the producers are quite communicative – when ENKS GAMING expressed their excitement, LoulanGame replied “Thanks for the support, we will do our best” which is really a sweet thing to come from a developer team.

Some players are already mentioning other games involving sand while they are talking about Loulan. Mandy James suggested to another user “Atlas Fallen: The Reign of Sand could be a game for you!” Some commenters even drew the connection between sand and time themes.

Nonetheless, there is still some uncertainty as to whether the game will be a soulslike or not. One person expressed “I hope it is not a soulslike” and was answered by another who pointed out that it was “God of War classic inspired” instead. Thus, this is something to keep an eye on as the developers will gradually reveal more.

The creativity of the visuals not only captivated the gamers but also earned the title major hype. Hwang Seong expressed, “What a delightful surprise! The visual and the concept are so good. It would be fitting to showcase it in a State of Play” which is indeed the case – this has the flavor of a State of Play event for sure.

What’s even more interesting is how precisely people’s enthusiasm is getting. VenomSpinoffGam repeated back the developer’s backgrounds mentioned in the announcement and simply stated: “Yesssss, give me this game immediately.” Such a degree of detail-oriented hype is always an encouraging sign.

And TSquatch830 even threw a dart at the competition, saying: “Is a Chinese team going to show Blizzard how to make ARPGs?!”, which might not be that unlikely considering Blizzard’s recent… troubles?

On the contrary, isometric view is appealing to a part of the gamers. Zuppa_zone stated, “I enjoy isometric hack and slash action games, added to my wishlist on Steam”, so the title will be available across various platforms, which is always good news.
