Nintendo has just given a treat to its Switch Online subscribers by introducing a limited custom icon for Halloween which is obtainable through users’ Platinum Points. Still, players’ responses have been a bit of everything.

To put it otherwise: A tweet from Nintendo North America says that users can now swap their MyNintendo Platinum Points for the Halloween-themed custom icons. The last date to redeem these icons is November 3 at 5 pm PT, so you have a week’s time to contemplate and spend your earned points. The icons have a number of Mario characters as well as a vampire Mario, werewolf Luigi, ghost Peach, and so forth!

The player community, however, was very quick to express their discontent over the missing of certain characters. Or you could say one characters in particular. Posts like, “0/10 no Rosalina,” from Taco Blinx, are representative of the overall sentiment among gamers. Another user, Sango__19, lamented, “So Daisy and Rosalina are not even considered when blooper and the fish made it….” Ouch! That has to be a hard truth.

It is not only the princesses that suffer from this arrogance but also other characters. Sarah_denunzio, for example, claimed that the absence of a Halloween Boo icon was nothing less than a sacrilege. Come on, Nintendo, it’s the Halloween season! Boo is the backbone of the celebration. The question of Serlin S., “Where is Boo and King Boo?” is actually a very good one. Topher Putnam just placed a picture of King Boo with the caption “WHERE IS HE??” and really? Same feelings over here.

Nonetheless, choosing the characters was only one of the players’ concerns. Besides, some players complained of technical problems right from the start. Q8_leo was mad about the absence of online play and said, “What’s wrong today with online playing??? I can’t play!!!!” which is the last thing you want to hear when you are trying to redeem your points for cute icons.

The whole issue of points is beyond that. BlueFroggolotl wished it was “a little easier to get points” and honestly? Quite reasonable. At the same time, VynncentMoon224 commented, “Sucks that we can’t spend our points if our Online is on hold…. lame” which is a very strong point—why not block the access of those who can’t afford to spend the points they have already earned?

NorCalEnjoyer had a similar issue and asked, “I can’t use my coins on a free trial? 💔” and… Yeah, it does come across as a bit too strict on Nintendo’s part. Let those on the free trial have some fun!

However, complaints were not the only expressions. There were users who were nothing but positive. DingusHyena exclaims, “DRY BONES MY BELOVED!! I have that shirt too!! <3” which is the cutest. And ludiidomi just told, “Omggg I want mariooo” – straightforward, innocent, we adore it.

Additionally, Gann_julian commented “Little late as usual Nintendo it’s the last fuckin week of October” and… Well, they are not wrong. Halloween is literally just days away. Perhaps next year they could launch these at the very beginning of October? Just an idea.

Some users already started guessing the next series of characters. Tanner said, “Peach is gorgeous but I was hoping for Daisy and Pauline as well, can we have wave 2?” which is the kind of plan I’m all for! And ArchFisuto begged for “please, let these outfits be in the next game” – just imagine these costumes in Mario Kart, or something?? That would be cool!

There was even some… strange thoughts about the costumes. Noahdoesnothing asked if the werewolf Luigi was “Luigi’s fursuit” and, you know what? I’m not even going there. WarioManSSBB said, “I wore a costume before the rest of those frauds, where are my dues?” and that really sounds like a Wario-type statement.

Nevertheless, there was no disputing the excitement that existed among users – FZah928 claimed “I MUST HAVE THEM ALL” while GAM3Sgg_ just said, “Collect em all!” which is the very spirit we need. At the same time, MushroomEater64 and TheOwlDuck were conversing about the release of werewolf Luigi, with the former finally concluding “Got it!” – mission accomplished.

In contrast, some gamers were more concerned with the overall picture. PipeFrame64 commented, “This is nice but these, or at least some of these, really should be in Mario Kart World” which… actually, yeah, why not? And khg1991 rather strangely requested for Super
