Fortnite just dropped a major announcement and players are… to be honest, a wide range of emotions. The tweet from the official Fortnite account told the users that the aliens Kang and Kodos from The Simpsons are coming to the game who have a “message for all you humans.” The event is set for November 1st, 11 AM Eastern Time. And how is the reaction? Let’s just say it is the whole mood.
The first reason for the situation is the timing that is going on from the very beginning. Many players are pretty angry, and the reason is that it’s a Saturday morning. Who would choose a time like this when a huge chunk of the community is either at work or asleep for a Fortnite event that can’t be missed??? One user, MrStec, just put it out there with his very honest “Fuuuuuuuck……I have to work on Saturday…..” which happens to be a whole mood. Another one, RavengersRage22, appealed, “PLEASE, move the event a few hours later, there are people who go to school and work, that day.” It’s a real struggle bus situation for anyone who has a life outside of gaming.
Work is not the only reason for the trial. AgentCryptex was very excited and said, “Oh, cool an event on the 1st? I should be able to finally go to it since all the events have been around 11am pst”. But only to be disappointed to find out it is at 8 AM their time, which is exactly when they are logging in. Ouch. That is a tough timing loss from Epic Games for sure. Meanwhile, Mr. Brooks said that school and college audience is completely messed up, who stated the time is “shit for everyone but the jobless.” Tough, but kind of true??
But wait, it’s not all negative. Some players are actually seeing the bright side of the early time slot. srorigin_3 referred to the event at 8 AM PT as “amazing 😵💫😵💫” so I guess for the early birds and night-shift workers it is a total win. There’s a real division in the community, like the great divide over the return of the OG map.
Then the whole Kang and Kodos matter comes. The collaboration is immense, bringing a major part of the pop culture into the Fortnite world. Pakked even noticed the comical aspect and tweeted, “No way you really simpsonized the Fortnite logo 😂” which is a pretty clever move. But of course, not everyone is thrilled. A user, jesenheiro, branded the news as “Shit so ass” which is… brief. And Dagger76115192 seemed to be disillusioned, asking, “So there is no storyline linked stuff like I was expecting.” Maybe some were waiting for a bigger narrative event than just a Simpsons crossover message.
As usual, the speculation is limitless. NPlunske wanted to know the million-dollar question: “@Fortnite will the kang and kodos glider be free for attending the event?” That is the real endgame, isn’t it? Epic loves their event rewards so let’s hope there will be a freebie. Others are even looking beyond, like JuriForFortnite, who jokingly (or maybe not?) asked if this is the time that Juri Han from Street Fighter gets added. The collaboration dreams are endless, my friend.
And let’s not forget about the technical aspect. LukePlayzz11 brought up a relevant issue and asked Epic to “activate the lobby countdown since the in-game build-up is bugged and does not show up for some people.” Because what’s a Fortnite event without a few bugs to keep things amusing, right?
So what’s the takeaway? The Kang and Kodos event is a huge crossover that not only garnered a lot of attention but also got the Fortnite community talking. However, the choice of 11 AM ET time on a Saturday has really polarized the community. For every gamer that can log in hardly, another one is going to miss it because of commitments in real life. It’s a classic case of Epic creating hype but maybe not considering the accessibility for their entire worldwide player base. Be it the excitement or the annoyance, there is one thing for sure, everyone will be counting the days to hear what these two aliens have to say to us humans. Just set your alarms, or not. The choice is yours.
