Just after Halloween, the new Peely skin and the accompanying plushie have joined the extinct Fortnite items to scare players and to add the rarest ones of all Fortnite collections. The notorious leaker HYPEX has revealed everything; he even provided a link where players can purchase the items along with a code for him if they wish to support him. And as for the community’s response? Let’s just say it’s all over the place.

Now, what the heck is this Peely? It is, in fact, the beloved banana sidekick but now with Halloween features, such as, the ability to glow in the dark and a very spooky atmosphere. The skin was accompanied by a plushie that was already a target for a lot of collectors’ interests. HYPEX, who is the most well-known for leaking Fortnite news, unveiled the announcement in his usual manner, but players had a lot to add in the comments.

The comments came and from the very beginning the players were split. Some are absolutely loving it. The player xoxo293489, for example, says, “Omg it’s so cute! I must have it!” while another player named Sinisterknows admitted, “I’m tired of Peely getting all the skins, but I’ve got to say that this Halloween Peely skin is awesome.” Even Peely’s the hero some are completely fed up with the character but the design seems to be winning over some others.

But there are still some players who are completely unsatisfied. Awesom_saus just wrote “NOBODY want ts,” and tgraybird expressed it with “no one cares” among his words. That’s harsh. It appears that for a part of the community, the never-ending Peely transformations have become tiresome. One user, JayJay420000, came up with a funny one, “The one millionth Peely,” pointing at how many times we have seen that same skin.

In addition, the comments started to look like a wishlist. Players are inviting the return of other skins that they want. Linusknight asked, “are they going to release the universal monsters again? what the fwt i want frankensteins monster and dracula,” and doIIettegf and lietogigi were both wondering about Lady Marigold. BeanBoy729403 and nsfwlexluthor are also interested in Mothman, the latter even saying, “We don’t gaf where is mothman.” The demand for Halloween skins apart from those mentioned above is simply overwhelming.

There is quite a bit of ambiguity around what exactly is hitting the market. One user, Edgemetax, asked, “@HYPEX Is this real life products now?” referring to the plushie, implying that some are totally confused about what’s digital and what’s physical merchandise. On the other hand, JesterSfm reported a strange bug: “Uh, the Rue skin has started appearing in my recents despite me owning her for over 5 years.” Classic Fortnite bugs reappearing again.

Some nice moments between players happened just because of the plushie. PawsMeta shared a picture of his/her plushie and said, “Nothing can outdo the plushie,” while Pixiemetax1 replied with, “He goes with me wherever I go!!!” These are the types of feelings that reflect how much players really love their Fortnite stuff. The personal objects certainly mean a lot to the faithful followers.

But here’s the thing—Fortnite’s character customization has always been rich in possible options, and Peely has been one of those characters that keep on revolving. Agent Peely, pirate Peely, Halloween Peely—Epic Games continues to show off this banana as the character that generates skins. Even if players say they are sick of him, the sales could just tell the opposite. TAAKSNtv commented, “the green effects on any other reskin would be tuffer,” implying that the effects are nice but maybe they are great for a new character instead.

The whole thing is the timing of the release is also interesting. Halloween is just a few days away, so naturally, Epic is maximizing the profits out of the spooky season. Meanwhile, players are asking about the next events, like Benga554464356 who inquired when the butterfly event will be. This indicates how the community is always looking forward and wants to know what is next, even when new content is being released.

What is really impressive is that the discussions around the skins have become a topic among the communities about what they actually want. Some are crying for the return of monsters or Flash, while others are more than eager to see the next collaborations. Kermitx050204’s doubt about Omniman shows that the crossover content is always on the players’ minds.

Still as it is said, it is still your choice to love or hate him, Peely is still one of the iconic characters of Fortnite. The Halloween version brings a novelty with its glow-in-the-dark aspects, however, KnightOw7 noted a possible gameplay problem: “Glow in the dark Peely. Not good if you hide in bushes.” That is a very valid point—could be the wrong skin choice for sneaky plays.

The mixed reactions suggest that the Fortnite community is quite clear about its preferences and although Peely will still have his fans, but it is sure that there will be a significant number of players who would like to see more diversity in the skins. Since it will just be a matter of time for new seasons and collaborations to come, it would be interesting to see if Epic will consider not only these recurring characters but also the fresh designs the particular player community is craving for.
