Blizzard has disclosed a temporary event for Diablo 4 that allows players to get more Infernal Warp during Halloween, which begins on October 28. The notice implies “glory and wealth with the tip of your sword,” but the gaming community’s reaction has not been very enthusiastic. Players are writing their complaints in the replies, concerning everything from broken systems to unarguable changes that will come later with the updates.
Nonetheless, this event will provide a massive boost of Infernal Warp, which is redeemable for the endgame activities and none other than the rewards in the current season of Diablo 4. More warp brings you closer to the great loot caches and possibly getting that Chaos armor set you have been eyeing. “Missing pieces of Chaos armor? Demand is the time! Increased Warp = More scrolls for caches. So, LOGIN!” One person even said.
The white area is where the trouble begins. The event has cast a shadow of doubt over its timing and the players are asking why? The current season is coming to an end, and many players are still thinking “why so late for such an event?” One user went straight to the point and wrote “@Diablo Way too late for this.” Another one grumbled “@Diablo I really want this season to be over… and I heard the PTR is not going well at all…”
Did you get my point? Oh yes, the Public Test Realm for the next season is apparently the root of many worries. Some players who are trying out the changes are stating that the new Masterworking system, which is supposedly a major gear upgrade, is actually cutting player power by a large margin. One player was so frustrated that he said “The ‘master working’ changes are just player power nerfs under the guise of master working changes. ruining the play power fantasy to keep players weak longer is not going to extend play times like your dev team thinks it will. People will just not play.”
In response to this, a very heated debate ensued in the replies. Some gamers have been supporting the changes, arguing that the current power level has been totally exaggerated. A supporter of this argument said, “Lmao ‘ruining power fantasy’ is hilarious, dude. Masterworking nerfs are MUCH NEEDED. It takes 10 hours to get to Torment 4 right now because we are just power-crept to insanity.” Another one agreed saying, “A stat squish is needed. Come on man. Completely ignoring all content because you’re hitting for quadrillions can’t be that fun to you.”
However, the others in the community think that character customization options are being taken away. “@JBeatty117 @Diablo Idgaf about losing a couple of zeros to my bazillions of damage. The old system had meaningful customization. The new one is nothing but a boring +dmg or +armor.” This is indeed a valid worry—if your character building turns out to be nothing more than picking the highest number rather than making interesting choices, then the game might soon become repetitive.
Another factor that players are pointing out is that Halloween is when this event is happening. Many gamers had the same thought that it would have been a very nice opportunity for a fabulous seasonal event. “@Diablo Dude, If I were in charge of this game, Halloween would be such a great time to have a big release/event. Too many missed opportunities. Can’t even add pumpkins or bats? What? That’s Lazy ain’t no way they can’t do that.” A question was posed along the same line using the same username “@Diablo How about a Halloween Goblin Event?” To which the answer is… more warp. Which is kind of a letdown for the Halloween period.
In addition to that, there are still issues that the players continue to raise and say they are not getting enough help. One unhappy gamer said the reporting system was completely down: “@Diablo WHEN ARE YOU GONNA FIX THE REPORT SYSTEM IN D4? ALL THOSE SPAMMERS CANT BE BLOCKED OR REPORTED. FIX IT NOW” This complaint has been around for months but, surprisingly, it is still not resolved.
Some others think that the constant looting of gear makes the grinding less of a challenge and they give up playing. “@Diablo The game is fun but to be frank, with all the gear changes happening so frequently, it makes it pointless to play the game. We are literally playing to just destroy everything we got at the end of the season because the gear/armor/resistance keeps changing.” That’s a fairly common experience, when after spending dozens of hours on a build just to be met with new mechanics that utterly change the old ones when the next season comes, the player may lose interest.
And there is the nostalgia factor at play. “@Diablo I still love diablo, it is sad though I have to go to D2 still just to get the Vibes back.” This is indicative of the current situation of the community. When players rather go back to a game that is 20 years old just to feel what the latest one lacks, that is… not very good.
It appears that the general feeling is that while the times are hard for Diablo 4, the developers are simply making things worse with their decisions. The community is fed up with the recycled events, the controversial balance changes and the lost opportunities for seasonal content. A player summarized it very nicely: “It’s not much that we ask, just a decent warp along with our skins.”
To the gaming community, however, the negative side of the coin is the Infernal Warp event that will be commencing on October 28. The timing will be short-lived, and it is currency that is not very exciting. Nevertheless, as the players’ responses indicate, even this might not be the case when piled on top of other major issues already existing to keep the players occupied. It will be the Diablo team that will have to work hard if they want to win back players’ trust as the new season comes near. The PlayStation and Xbox communities are also watching closely.
