CD Projekt Red has just added new content to Cyberpunk 2077 players, this time with the Neon City setting where you can live out your grand theft auto fantasies. The game maker‘s official Twitter account announced these new “courier” missions where you take on the role of a runner for Muamar Reyes, in fact, stealing cars and trying not to harm them too much during the process. It is like they have done a reverse from GTA’s car stealing feature and then given it a coat of unique Cyberpunk vibe.
What is your job exactly? You are basically acting as the escape driver for El Capitan. To be specific, you are taking certain cars, then bringing them to the destination with either no or minimal damage. A tweet indicated that players would have to “make sure the car isn’t too roughed up by the end of it” which likely means that there is a kind of reward system that depends on several factors. This player’s name Tokenn, on the other hand, has responded saying, “the payment for completing these missions is ridiculously good” if you think the game hasn’t blessed you enough with rewards elsewhere.
The reaction of the community has been… well, chaotic typical of Cyberpunk player. Many players do not mind the chaos and they really love to play the game and do new things. A player with the handle Rebecca (@FirecrackerOfNC) admitted that they are doing something similar: “Yes. Have done a few jobs for El Cap here and there. His clients are SO demanding though!! ‘You have three minutes to deliver!’ ‘Make sure the vehicle is in top condition!’ ‘Oh yes, those gonks you stole from are after you!’ Ugh, gimme a break already!!” Which in fact sounds exactly like the sort of hard but rewarding side hustle that is a perfect fit for Night City.
But of course, some players cannot drive to save their lives. There is a thread dedicated to this topic with players discussing one IvanLevcenko’s driving skills that are voted as bad and the player’s “git good” and “skill issue” is quite enough. Additionally, Pentagear displays his netrunner build, telling us that “I play net runner builds and I never have to take my hands off the wheel. I just cook the car by thinking about it.” Now, that’s arrogance!
While some users consider the announcement as an invite to ask for other features, their appeal for New Game Plus has not fallen on deaf ears. Several users simply wrote “NG+ we need!” Others mentioned new clothing selections, racing bikes without guns, and even more Panam stories (because who could oppose more Panam, to be honest?). One gamer Jeff (@Area_Denial) asked if “other types of side quests that continue to appear even after being completed” which sure would be nice for late-game content.
The most comical response might be that of Toxar7, who shared an image of a completely wrecked car asking “is this okay” – thus demonstrating that not everybody is heeding El Capitan’s advice of preserving cars in decent condition. Another user also had something humorous to comment on the situation: “LOL…gotta tell ya, El Capitan must have a genius bodyman to get some of those cars back in shape.”
Nevertheless, there are users who are still not thrilled. Some consider the game is in dire need of very comprehensive fixes. @BonelessAEsir, for instance, remarked, “No…. I love cyberpunk, but the only thing that would get me to come back is a new expansion like phantom liberty, new game plus or fing mods…. that’s it, nothing else would bring me back.” This remark is not earthen, to say the least, when one has already reached the maximum completion of a game.
What is more, the just mentioned missions seem to blend in with the already existing gameplay scenarios in a very smooth way. User _LTJorge said, “These missions are so OP they feel like cheating” which indicates that they could be slightly unbalanced but serving as a reward at the same time. And Gro3_ put it all in a nutshell when saying, “Finally, less red tape and more chaos.” Because sometimes people just want to wreak havoc in Night City without getting involved in the main storyline.
The new Cyberpunk missions are live now, and they are another reason for gamers to revisit Night City. New features are always a plus, but it is very clear, CD Projekt Red is still resuscitating the game by releasing content that incorporates more things you can do in that beautifully flawed universe. The question is whether you are the careful driver who can deliver perfect cars or the one who leaves behind a smoking wreck, now at the very least you have one more way to get eddies and to create a ruckus in the streets of Night City. And let’s be honest, this is the essence of being a mercenary, right? PlayStation and Xbox players can enjoy this new content.
