This weekend’s Fortnite players will immerse themselves once more in the wildly unpredictable Delulu game mode. Nonetheless, the mode’s return has also started a heated debate among the players. The limited-time mode, which has always been characterized by its unpredictable gameplay and crazy interactions, has returned again for a weekend of madness; however, some gamers are not too happy with the return.
So what is Delulu in Fortnite, exactly? It is a total off-the-wall game mode where the rules are constantly changing and thus every match becomes an absolute mess. Players drop on the island with one expectation but get the complete opposite. The game mode has attracted a lot of players since its beginning because some gamers are really into the unpredictability and others… not really.
The polemic by the community concerns the weapons alterations that are made for this time around. A significant number of users are claiming that firearms have either been completely eliminated or seriously modified in this Delulu that is being played this weekend. One gamer was quoted saying, ‘Wtf did they remove weapons 🙄they really hate fun don’t they,’ while another was merely asking ‘Where the fuck are the guns?’ Apparently, it looks like Epic Games once again selected to rejuvenate the scenario which is the reason why some players are dumbfounded and disenchanted.
On the other hand, it appears that, besides weapons changes, there are further sources of trouble. The social side of Delulu is turning out to be a tough ordeal for some players. One female player expressed her feelings in a very straightforward manner: ‘Never playing this again; people are too rude, even worst when they hear that you are a girl,’ alluding to the hostility that can occur in voice chats. Another gamer narrated, ‘I played one game and everybody wanted to just mess around. They even shouted at me because I knocked someone… as if that is not the very objective of the mode?’
Wait a minute, what was I talking about? Oh yes, the whole elimination confusion thing. It seems that there is a division between those who want to compete and those who just are aiming to play around, and thus some very awkward moments in-game are created.
In contrast, other players are simply enjoying the whole chaotic situation. An enthralled gamer commented: ‘The chaos has finally come back Time to find out who can survive through the madness of the weekend 😎’ another player stated that he/she would ‘troll the crap out of some kids’ with a devil emoji, which… yikes! This mode apparently has a tendency to bring out various sides of the players.
Moreover, there are no less than really exciting mechanics which the diehard followers of Delulu have discovered. To be more specific, there is a ‘legendary royale’ variant that can be randomly enabled and ‘all chests in the game will be just epic chests’ according to a person. Some others have talked about a ‘5% chance of every chest to be blue’ and special chest types that when they eventually appear ensure mythic or exotic weapons.
The reappearance of Delulu mode is not only the matter of the time but also the novelty. The players have mentioned ‘creators only time slots’ meaning that the content creators might have special access periods, though the status of this is uncertain – it could be either just pure speculation or it actually is. Whatever the case may be, limited accessibility is clearly part of what makes Delulu so appealing to its hardcore supporters.
However, there is a group who does not appreciate the return of Delulu so frequently. ‘Delulu was fun just for the first week!’ one player complained while another echoed that the overly frequent turnarounds of exclusive cosmetics take away their time. ‘It sucks that the glider is no longer rare because of the continuous returns, which is why I dislike it,’ someone tweeted, suggesting that Epic should create unique edit styles for those who owned items during the original release of the mode.
In addition to that, there are also some technical problems. One gamer reported that ‘my ping goes up by 30-40 in ALL modes because @Fortnite doesn’t care about fixing the server’s condition since they have released the Delulu update.’ Server issues have often been mentioned as one of the main complaints in connection with certain Fortnite updates, and it seems that this time it is Delulu which could be one of the causes of those problems.
The opposing views on Delulu are indeed fascinating. There are players who are asking for it to be turned into a ‘perma game mode’ while there are others who are labeling it ‘garbage’ and ‘awful.’ One player was very rightly capturing the ambivalence when he said ‘As toxic as delulu is having it every weekend with the constant weapon changes is r kinda cool.’
It is exactly that love-hate relationship which makes Delulu such an exciting part of Battle Royale. The mode is provocative, transforming, and causing such wild social interactions that they would never occur in a normal Battle Royale. It may not be tidy and controversial but it is never boring for sure.
If players are joining Delulu this weekend, then do not be surprised. The rules might change during the match, other players might have totally different goals than you, and the whole situation will probably either crack you up or make you completely annoyed. Maybe both.
That is the magic of Delulu – no one knows what to expect, and for many Fortnite players, the very uncertainty is what keeps them coming back to the weekend chaos. PlayStation and Xbox gamers alike are enjoying the chaos.
