Rockstar Games’ new patch for Halloween in Red Dead Online received a somewhat mixed reaction from the gamers, who expressed their comments in a way that could not be classified as the typical “treats and tricks” of the 21st century! The new Spoils of War Halloween variations in the game were actually making the official announcement through their tweet, where they revealed Fort and Blackwater (All Hallows Edition) as the two locations. How lovely is it? Until October 20, gamers will be able to earn double RDO$ and XP in both places thanks to the Featured Series. Unfortunately, the reactions provided a different viewpoint.
What is the reason behind these new Halloween modes? In the case of the competitive mode Spoils of War, players are split into two teams, and they engage in a fight for the bounty and then take it back to their base. The Halloween modes just add a bit of fright at the Fort and Blackwater locations. Players who are heavy on grinding the game will continually appreciate the double money and XP as an incentive. However, the truth is that, these modes are not absolutely new. The Halloween edition is merely a re-skin of the existing modes, and the players know it.
The comment section beneath it is almost like a wish list of everything that players would absolutely like to witness. One such complainer is @Basscat73 who seemed pretty dissatisfied and therefore went ahead and whined, “Should of brought back Halloween pass 1! But Nooooo ,had to be 2 for 5 years in a row pathetic.” The use of “should of” instead of “should have” is just one of the numerous slips that make his comment sound like a human error. Another gamer @cristishady was feeling the same way and told Rockstar, “Bring the Halloween pass 1 contents back, as is not fair to lock these nice items for those who purchased your game after 2019.”
And then, the whole issue of the next-gen update comes up. Numerous comments are asking for a Red Dead Redemption 2 next-gen patch. @Doctor_Budzz420 told Rockstar rather bluntly that, “Bring us our next gen update now.” while @jrblzn was pleading for it accompanied by crying emojis, “rdr2 next gen please 😢😢😢😩😩🙏🙏😭😭😭.” The players’ reaction is very much desperate. They are literally crying out for an upgrade that has been long overdue and should have happened by now.
But hold on! What was it I wanted to say? Oh yes, the Halloween content. The sequence of these events just leaves some players confused. @idontknowalt2 asked, “Is it normal they post about rdo on a Wednesday?” This is a legitimate question since Rockstar usually picks certain days for such updates. The sudden Wednesday post raised everyone’s hopes for something more important, like GTA 6 or that next-gen patch.
Talking about GTA 6, the comments quickly turned to a demand for the next Grand Theft Auto. @SoySilent asked, “How about we experience GTA6 trailer 3 instead??????” with a torrent of question marks indicating the urgency. @EthanHath_ was saying, “Can we PLEASE get some more news on GTA 6.” The participants almost seem to think that every Rockstar tweet is automatically about GTA6?—disappointed by more repetitive Red Dead Online content.
Some drama is even happening in the replies. @DiscussingFish made an unauthentic announcement proclaiming “‘GRAND THEFT AUTO VI’ has been delayed to February 14th, 2027,” which of course ignited people’s emotions. And then @ViceCityVibes26 and @SoyQatalan found themselves in a dispute ending with “Who tf r you? Get off my feed. Ew”—just the usual social media chaos.
Some people want entirely different stories to be told through games. @bobbyblaze_ pleaded, “we want UNDEAD NIGHTMARE 2 and a new MIDNIGHT CLUB game set in Japan.” Undead Nightmare was an exceptionally great zombie DLC for the first Red Dead, and players have been waiting for a sequel ever since. And what about Midnight Club? The racing series has been extinct for a while now but its fans still hold it dear.
If there are the hardware and technical issues, the complaints go on and on. @ThexTitanx3000 mentioned the Invetero Coquette D5 in GTA Online that has an invincible mode glitch and called on Rockstar to fix it. @lewisjneal complained about the car wash area of GTA Online being full of bullies saying, “I can’t do a car wash on gtaonline with out someone waiting on the other side blowing the car up.” These are the normal hardships that leave one to wonder whether Rockstar Games really is taking notice of its community’s concerns.
For the most part, players feel thankful to Rockstar for the continuous communication and the acknowledgment of the Red Dead Online still being there, but at the same time they want and deserve big updates. “We’re back, Red Dead Active Posts?!” said @GeorgeLaw2009, expressing the sarcastic despair that is prevailing in the community. They are glad the game is alive, but at the same time, they believe it is the minor content drop that needs to be applied to the game which is in desperate need.
So, what is it that Rockstar’s Upcoming Halloween Event for Red Dead Online has to offer? The amusingly increased rewards during the seasonal period is one aspect of the event, but according to the community’s reaction, what has been gaining traction is much more. The players want it all, be it the return of Halloween Pass 1 content, next-gen upgrade for RDR2, or news about GTA 6 that has been long awaited. The gap between what the developers are giving and what the players demand is huge and the comments made that perfectly clear. Cowboys and cowgirls can enjoy the spooky Spoils of War variations for now, but many others will be waiting for the next thing that is cowpoke- or cowgirl-worthy and canting into town.
PlayStation and Xbox players are among those voicing their opinions.
