The original Fortnite glider, which was the first one in the game and is simply known as the original, is back in the item shop after a two-year absence. The item that started it all is once more available. For players who either missed it the first time or just want to own a part of Fortnite history, this is practically the biggest deal ever.
The glider which we are talking about was a basic default one that every player used to have in the game. Did I interrupt myself? Oh, I just wanted to say that it has been out of stock for such a long time that some players did not even realize it had been labeled rare. Like one person wrote, “I didn’t even know it was rare,” which was almost the same as saying “me too.” It was not only out of circulation, but it was also forgotten completely by the players.
The issue though is that this glider was given away free of charge. That’s right, no cost at all for anyone. Is it, therefore, a case of Epic is charging the customers for it? Such a situation has players divided into two camps. One user even said it was “robbery and petty asf by epic games” while another said it that way was harsh but they were also agreeing to it truthfully. The whole situation was one of paying for something that once was free.
There are very different viewpoints on this issue. One group of the player retains nostalgia and can’t wait to take possession of the item. On the contrary, there are people who just say “nah, not going to buy it,” mainly because they believe it is a waste of money to have to pay for something that was once free. There is an ongoing debate about whether rare or all-old cosmetic items should be brought back.
Nonetheless, one player had quite a reasonable argument when he said that “These chapter 1 default cosmetics should be given to all chapter 1 players for free.” It would make a lot of sense, wouldn’t it? After all, it is not right to take the original players who have been with the game since the very beginning and make them pay for the stuff that they were already given access to.
Besides, the first tweet did have a few typos – “FIRSR” instead of “FIRST” and that was like… so relatable. At times, one gets so excited about Fortnite news that they can’t even type properly. It happens, it does, to the best of us.
Most confusing is how divided the community is on this issue. Some players completely support the idea of all the stock coming back to the shop for everyone to have their share of the item. While, on the other hand, some players want the rare items to remain so because it is a way of flaunting one as a long-time player. One user commented, “rarity will Never end since battlepasses and console/Mobile exclusives are confirmed to Never ever come back,” so at least there are still some exclusive items out there.
In the meantime, players are also asking whether or not other rare skins will return. Someone is searching for a particular character that has not been in the store for two years. If your favorite skin will not come back, then you are in a really tough spot.
It is hard to believe that the basic glider that everyone used to have is now causing all this trouble. This is just a glider, but it represents a lot of Fortnite’s early days. Back then the game was easier and we all were just a bit clumsy building ramps. Good times!
The fact that it has been a long two years since this glider was last sold shows very clearly how much the game has changed. We have gone through several chapters, worked with all the top brands, and now, we are back to the original glider. It is, in fact, a full circle moment.
Whether you are going to buy it or not, it is still hard to say that having this piece of Fortnite’s past back on the market is not impressive. Even though the price is a little… unclear. However, at least new players will get to experience the early days at our expense, which is not fair since we, the early players, were not charged.
Thus, after a two-year-long wait, the first Fortnite glider is still around. It has reignited the debates, made people reflect back and even caused some to get their wallets out while others just shrugged their heads. That is how it is in the battle royale community. The history repeats itself even when the ancient skins are reintroduced. The debate continues across all platforms, including PlayStation and Xbox.
