Apex Legends has introduced the Raise Hell Event, which will completely change the whole scenario in Resawn’s battle royale game. This limited-time event showcases the new cosmetics, and game modes, and also gives Mad Maggie an evil new prestige skin pushing her into the spotlight among the developers ‘making a mess’ while the community response has been messy in its own way too) .

The event Nighttime Wildcard on Broken Moon brings horror Halloween moods along with the already heated battle games starting from the event’s first day. In addition to all the usual event cosmetics that players can earn or buy, there are free rewards on the new “Raise Hell” prize track. Besides, one of the highlights of Mad Maggie’s new “Risen Demon” prestige skin is the ‘kicking an opponent into oblivion’ finisher where she kicks the opponent away electronically.

But here comes the fun part. Players’ reactions are telling a totally different story than the official Apex account who is hyping the event with their “come on you eggs” tweet. The players are not just discussing the new content—they are expressing their very serious discontent concerning the state of the game.

One of the users, Richard Acevedo, explicitly stated that he would be playing “BF6 until I see this for all the Zen users,” which was a reference to the current cheating that was happening in ranked matches of Apex. On the other hand, the user feetmodel2023 was complaining about the matchmaking system and was asking the question “Why do I have predators team in a plat lobby? Apex do better, you just letting pros harvest kills” directly at Apex.

It looks like the ranked system is a major pain point since it was mentioned in multiple comments. The user Liquid_Ghost was like: “Can I get lumped together with other diamonds and not 3 stack preds thank you,” whereas Tactical-pasta_ was like, “the point system is broken. I drop 9 kills and get basically no rp for it.” So it seems like everybody is trying to enjoy the new event but the problems are so persistent that they can’t even get past these issues.

And then there are the tech problems. The user jm just said “Fix the freezes. Unplayable right now,” which gives us a hint that the performance problems might be ruining the experience for some players. And Kyler Norum had a very specific request: “For the love of god, take the top of the tower in Containment out of the game.”

Balance of the characters arguments are still ongoing. A long thread between JollySmokeEater and fallen angel gave much ground to dialogue about Caustic’s gas abilities, one side saying that is absurd that characters can walk through gas without being hurt, the other one defending the changes. TheOG_FuseMain23 meanwhile, voiced his disagreement, questioning “Why you gotta keep bullying Fuse?” indicating that legend balance is still a hot discussion.

Some players do show a total lack of interest in the game. Matt confessed saying “Nah bf6 is more fun than this shit festering game,” WoHype, on the other hand, replied to the event announcement with “Nahhhhh keep your stuff.” Ouch!

Nevertheless, not everything is negative—there is still a group of excited players. Some players are really excited about the new cosmetics. For instance, ReapyrR expressed his desire “demon revenant skin in this same style and color scheme,” as a request, showing the event’s aesthetic and his/her admiration. Besides, Luis M. made a suggestion about improving Maggie’s new finisher: “It would have been so much better if instead of that kick Maggie used the drill so that the body was stuck to the Wrecking Ball.”

The event has turned out to be unforgettable—night maps always heighten the drama, the new skins are very nice and anything that has Mad Maggie creating havoc is usually a good time. But the community response also speaks to the ongoing struggle between new content, existing issues needing to be fixed and players’ desire for both. And when one side gets the attention while the other one is neglected, we get to see the kind of reactions.

What’s more telling is the number of comments that have nothing to do with the event itself. The users are taking the announcement as an opportunity to vent their frustrations about Apex with respect to such issues as matchmaking, character balancing, and technical difficulties. It’s like the Raise Hell Event has turned into the town hall meeting no one asked for, but that everybody showed up to anyway.

Thus, the event has ended but you can still unlock new things and Mad Maggie is looking particularly devilish. However, the real question is whether players will stay to enjoy it or be chased away by the ongoing problems… The Apex team might have raised hell with this update—just maybe not the kind of hell they wanted.

At last, mixing legends is one of the most wanted battle royales for a reason, even if it still has a ton of problems. The game still provides an outstanding experience, the characters are still appealing, and such events keep everything fresh. Yet, community feedback suggests here that merely cosmetic updates will not pacify players forever. A balanced and working game must first be there, then the cool skins will follow. Here’s to hoping Respawn is underlining the brewing excitement and the complaints coming from the Raise Hell Event.

The developers continue to support the game on both PlayStation and Xbox platforms.
