Rumors have it that Fortnite is planning huge surprises in collaboration with Tyler The Creator. The same Tyler. All this began when a leak from SamLeakss ignited speculation on Twitter about a possible crossover between Fortnite and Tyler The Creator and the players are now going mad over this rumor. Not just a guess, but a leak that has split the community into two, says a Fortnite and Tyler The Creator crossover might happen this year.

The very first tweet just said “FORTNITE X TYLER THE CREATOR – POSSIBLY THIS YEAR” and it was the bombshell dropped. Then came the media, which quite possibly was conceptual art or a leak image which got everyone interested. But the real saga is in the replies, dude. The hype and the hate are all over the place like a battlefield.

On the one hand there are those players who are going completely nuts. User Taow__ was having a total meltdown, replying over and over with gifs saying “WAAHHAHAHA YES YES” and “ITS GONNA HAPPEN.” They even declared, “If this happens, I will drop the biggest fucking bag and go broke,” which is a mood no doubt. You can literally feel the excitement in the air. Another user, Fweshy14, shouted, “We tyler fans eating good this year holy shit,” which is an understatement for quite a few of the fans. It is their pickings.

But then… the other side of the debate shows up. Oh boy, they are the loudest. A user, ballsgamering, was literally on a comment rant. They called Tyler a “terrible artist” and were putting up comments like “NOONE WANTS THESE RANDOM ARTISTS THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH FORTNITE” and “why are people happy about this” again and again. It was something else. They were arguing with anyone who showed support, saying the number of monthly listeners is not a measure of the artist’s quality and the community does not want these collaborations. The degree of passion, for and against, is something else.

And then it got… not nice, to say the least. Someone went back to about 16 years ago and found some old, edgy lyrics trying to stir controversy. But, on the other hand, players were quick to react by saying it was a long time ago and that it was part of the character he was portraying. User Ekz0der posted, “Dude, what the fuck? It was a long time ago, Tyler is not like that and he’s changed, he is not an edgy and aggressive teenager anymore.” So this whole angle really didn’t take off but it certainly illustrates the lengths people would go to when a collab is announced.

What is really intriguing here is that there is a group divide. One group is totally ready to spend their V-Bucks all at once. A user AYoMeGalo said, “I’m buying that asap 😳😳😳😳.” On the other hand, there is another faction that feels Epic is just going for the wrong artists who do not fit the game’s vibe at all. User ScaraLokiStaley remarked, “Mate they actually never add any good music,” which is without a doubt a strong viewpoint. It is a typical gamer conflict over what is “good” for the game and what the players actually want.

Of course, this is not the first Fortnite music collaboration, anyway. They have done so with Major Lazer, Marshmello, and more. But a Tyler The Creator skin or emote? That does seem very different. His style is so unique and so recognizable. Just picture Tyler in a Golf Le Fleur version running around the map or something really awesome. The options are countless. It is going to be a different crowd for sure, maybe even attracting players who weren’t interested in Fortnite before. User SmilingSages commented, “This lowkey might be my cue to get the game lol,” and that’s exactly what Epic wants to hear.

The leak came from @SamLeakss who has been really trustworthy in this matter. They are not always completely correct but most of the times they are very close. So when they say “possibly this year” then it is highly likely that it is in the works. Epic Games loves these surprise drops so it might be that one day it just suddenly appears in the Item Shop out of nowhere with no prior notice. That is how sometimes they do it.

Hang on, what was I saying? Oh yes, the collab. So the community is split but the hype appears to be much greater than the hate. The negative comments are mainly coming from a very vocal minority while the positive comments just radiate pure happiness. For a lot of people it is enough to get thrilled just by imagining new music, a new skin, and maybe even a new emote based on one of his songs.

If this does happen, it will be yet another colossal triumph for Fortnite’s crossover division. They have not only mastered their collaborations with everyone from Naruto to The Rock, but also, adding a music superstar such as Tyler The Creator to their list is a natural step. It keeps the game alive and players always have something to talk about and most importantly, they have stuff to buy constantly. And let’s be honest, that’s the goal.

So mark it down, keep the Fortnite news feeds and the Item Shop notifications on. If SamLeakss is right, we could be seeing Tyler The Creator in the game sooner than we think. Regardless of whether you are for or against, it will certainly be a topic. The players are ready, or at least a good number of them are. The rest will just have to live with it. PlayStation and Xbox gamers are also watching closely.
