Epic Games worked with Scooby-Doo to create a massive crossover in Fortnite and guess what? The reception has been awesome. It has become a- not to say long- a vacation for most and a walk down memory lane for others. The pack includes a new dance move and a Scooby-Doo Jam song, and the players have been going crazy.
Leakster HYPEX’s tweet revealed all of the new additions, and the reactions started pouring in without delay. A gamer going by the name calistraal bluntly stated, “holy fucking shit the nostalgia hit”, which is pretty much the same as saying it is the current mood. The theme tune of Scooby-Doo is so well-known that playing it as a Jam Track during Fortnite Festival is now seen as a great idea.
Talking about money, the bundle has an unusual price. It’s a whopping 3,400 V-Bucks for the bundle, equivalent to about $28 in real money. People are discussing this price openly and loudly. One user xoxodollyyy stated that he did not want the skins of Shaggy or Scooby but the emotes and the pickaxe only but when he did the math then he found that buying the entire bundle minus the skins would actually be less money than getting all of them one by one. What a genius marketing strategy by Epic.
There were very different opinions on the matter and a discussion about the price broke out on the replies section. User simptarofan directly questioned if the price was a mistake while describing it “a little too pricey for a 2 skin bundle.” However, then balloonman_g chimed in to point out that “the only reason it’s 3400 is cause the jam track and glider” which is indeed the case if you think about it. Normally, a Jam track would be around 500 V-Bucks each and a glider is not cheap either.
What is surprising is that the gamer community is that divided. Some players are fully supporting the price while others are calling it outright theft. One-user Owen45840178 gave the harshest remark saying “bro really defending a billion-dollar company,” and later adding “It’s digital cosmetics for almost $40.” That’s tough.
On the other hand, some like chewyyberry even made comments like “I would sell my only child for this bundle,” which is…kinda dark yet humorous. Meanwhile, kioskmango was very candid while stating simply “we ARE buying” with a fire emoji. So, it is probably safe to say that the hype is still there regardless of the price discussions.
The partnership basically relied totally on nostalgia. Many gamers asserted that the theme song had the power to bring back childhood memories, and iRihkon even said that “They picked the best theme song” which is definitely correct. The only thing we are left to ponder is if they had one of the new Scooby-Doo themes. That’s not on.
What is somewhat surprising is; however, this does not seem to be the end of Scooby-Doo content for Epic. User xoxodollyyy (yes, they were the main channel for this thread) foreseen that “Fred, Daphne, and Velma are going to be like 5,000 V-Bucks watch.” And, frankly speaking? They probably are. If Epic sets the price of 3,400 for just Scooby and Shaggy, then Mystery Inc.’s whole crew will cost a bomb.
There are also some technical problems already being reported. User JVRisque stated that “There is a flaw with the Green Ghost Glider…it cannot be seen when launched.” So, here is one issue that Epic needs to resolve quickly.
The whole hype around this collaboration comes at just the right time – we are about to step into the season of spooks, and Scooby-Doo is on point for the Halloween theme. However, user Dennis_STW did request if they might “add more scooby styles” considering the current one is “Halloween-locked.” Quite an argument to make if you ask me.
The funniest thing is how many players are using this Scooby-Doo announcement to bring up skins that are completely unrelated. For instance, a user asked about Wednesday Addams skin release, another one wanted to know about Terrifier, and there were numerous questions regarding K-Pop demon hunter emotes. The Fortnite community really does not have its priorities in order.
The package consists of a Jam Track, an emote, different skins for Scooby and Shaggy, and supposedly a glider as well. Although the price is still causing some hesitation among the players, it is still a very generous offer. User ItsSonicDude purchased it but called it “super pricey” and expressed the hope “jason and the grabber cost less because there are so many collaborations to buy.”
This is where the main problems lie – recently, Fortnite has been on a collaboration spree and players’ V-Bucks wallets are taking the brunt of it. When you have Marvel, Star Wars, and now Scooby-Doo selling out within just a couple of months, the expense adds up very quickly.
But the general mood is still very positive. The nostalgia is quite heavy, the content seems to be of good quality, and even if there are complaints about the price, a lot of players are obviously getting this bundle. User edgemetax simply expressed: “that’s craaaazy. Let’s get it.”
The Scooby-Doo crossover is a prime example of how ingenious Fortnite’s crossover strategy has been – reviving and refreshing the classic childhood shows in the game. The pricing may be an open question, yet pronouncing the iconic theme of Scooby in Fortnite Festival is going to be a different experience.
Thus, whether you plan to get it or just appreciate it from a distance, Scooby-Doo bundle is yet another victory for Fortnite’s never-ending world of crossovers. Now, pardon me while I go and listen to the theme song on repeat for another three hours.
