Techland has put out a fresh hotfix 1.2.4 for Dying Light: The Beast and already players start checking the update for the changes made. The update does promise not only a better gameplay experience but also getting rid of most of the bugs, the players have been complaining about. So, what’s actually happening? What did they fix, if at all?

Twitter provided the first message from the Dying Light account that briefly discussed the most important points. Stability and performance have been enhanced which is believed to be the reason for the reduction in the number of crashes and a smoother FPS for all players. The game will now be free of Parkour problems, the co-op and quest glitches are gone, and the graphics and sound are getting some tweaks to make the whole experience a bit cleaner. Moreover, there have been fixes in the areas of weapons, crafting, and translations as well. It is not a short list of amendments, but all these changes are directed towards making the game smoother and better working.

Still, the patch story’s real side comes from the comments. Gamers did not take long to put their wishlists next to their feedback as soon as the replies section filled up. SnubHades, one of the users, reported that loot is still seeping into cabinets and thus, becomes inaccessible, which is a major blow when one is in need of supplies. Audi0_head, another player, asked if it would be possible to include dune buggies like in ‘The Following’ expansion of the first game that would, hypothetically speaking, be cool and helpful in getting through the infected swarms quickly.

In addition, the demand for New Game Plus is still going strong. Various comments like the ones from Erv-El and Jesse Punk® practically begging for it. One player stated, “Just waiting for new game plus so I can replay the game 😭😭,” which seems to be the prevailing attitude among the players. The gamers want to experience the narrative through the characters with superhuman powers and this will not be just a feature but also a reason that will undoubtedly stretch the game’s life span.

The performance of next-gen consoles is another burning question. A 120 fps update and PS5 Pro improvements are pretty much what many are hoping for. One such request was so direct that the user simply phrased it like this, “120 fps update when?” Another player, A5hTriX was upset to the point of saying, “Oh look nothing for a PS5 Pro again… You guys are a joke, so glad I didn’t pay for this game.” Ouch! That’s very harsh feedback but it still shows the developers that they are so much needed performance boosts as per the community’s point of view.

Co-op seems to be one of the most irritating parts. Daryil johnson uttered the question, “Will this actually fix it tho co op,” implying that previous solutions might not have fully resolved the situations. On the other hand, there are minor yet annoying glitches. Titan86 lamented that the HUD located in the bottom left corner disappears at times and they have to keep going into the menu to turn it back on. It may be perceived as a petty issue, yet those small annoyances may turn into big ones over a long gaming session.

Some players have started to think not just about fixes but also their desires and expectations of the game in the future. Wilden2 was curious if there would be a mode for ‘The Beast’ similar to the tower raid in Dying Light 2. Others, like johno07, wished for more endgame content, dreaming of chimera anomalies or more replayability in dark zones to keep things fresh after the story tear. ‘Legend levels need to happen, game was awesome but there literally nothing else to do after everything is been completed,’ he noted, which is a strong argument for a game that thrives on its gameplay loop.

And then come the very specific requests. khelad20123, although his name may imply caution, suggested that the improvement of the rope physics could prevent its getting tangled everywhere – which is a frequent problem with the use of any grappling hook. ShiShigure, on the contrary, requested for less zombie grabs declaring ‘My square button can’t hold on anymore,’ which indeed, is a very relatable statement. The constant button-bashing to release oneself can really drain all the energy.

Cross-play is the area some users touched upon, with one shouting ‘Cross play please?’ It has become such a common feature in online multiplayer games that people hardly notice when it is absent. AKHNATUN has mentioned the update size to be roughly 37GB which is quite a big size for a user with data caps or a slow internet connection.

Despite all the bugs and requests, one thing is beyond doubt that people love the game. Matt Moss said, ‘I love this game, finished it a few days ago’, then he went on to give the issue of car trunks that cause a stutter and almost an epileptic fit for him due to a heart condition a long and detailed account. This is a serious issue that hopefully gets treated as a priority and it also proves that some bugs are more than just an annoyance.

So yes, Hotfix 1.2.4 is here and it is resolving tons of issues at once. It’s clear that Techland heard and is trying to improve the game experience. However, the players’ feedback shows that the community has many more things in mind—like New Game Plus, performance improvements, new vehicles and more substantial endgame content. Thus, the developers’ task is not easy if they want to win everyone’s heart. For now, the game should be smoother though. You can download the update to see if your biggest problems are fixed or not! Or just wait to see what they add next as the conversation is far from over.
