Ubisoft succeeded in taking the game from behind as the whole game looks different and includes a lot of new stuff. Ubisoft posted a long YouTube show on the Internet with the changes that were made in the game. The previews for the press were made in the open and soon the absence was felt among the artists, critics, and fans while, however, the community was… well, as they say, it has its own mind.
So what will the show be like? The setting and the theme of the play are already clear as it will be a new game and the story will be connected tightly to it, while the game plays in Baghdad, the region where it was first released in 2023. The DLC Add-on seems to be a big one for it was given the all-day event showcase, which might lead us to suspect that Ubisoft has yet to finish the story of Basim. For those who were very strong on the Mirage going back to the roots approach, this release may be the answer to their prayers.
However, there is a twist in the story that makes it even more interesting – the players’ opinions are very divided. There are people who are very excited and seem to be at 100% all the time. They might not be less passionate than even Jeff Hatfield, the person who almost a moment ago from, as of his quote ‘I am so happy to hear the news. I just recently got the platinum. Bring the DLC! Thank you!’ the zeal that developers actually love. Whereas another almost identical group can be more than all right with a single exclamation, like a certain person who wrote “Who allowed you to do such a sick thing?”
However, some players from the community have started to express disapproval or any other reason against it. For many casual gamers, the time was not right so they thus are those who wondered “Hasn’t it been like 2 years already?” and another resignedly admitting, “I don’t think I have even heard of this thing.” Oh no. That is the developers’ very painful criticism, and they may have burned the midnight oil behind the curtain of the new expansion.
The most interesting clash seems to be the fans clashing with those players who like the franchise but are on the haters’ side. It is also to note that the opposition between two sides is more about two games, as one game is the new content in a completely new game, and the other (Shadows) is already a follow-up and you can still very much see the developers are working on it. Nevertheless, for some, the developers’ past is a moot point and they would always argue that the developers need to start with the future and the new rather than the past.
The game-play was not the only major issue the players have had to deal with lately. A player was talking about the game and expressing the opinion that the gameplay in the second base game was of a more stealthy nature. One while on the other hand, the other player said that he was somehow both excited and disappointed when he realized that the combat remained the unaltered. The unveiling of the Mirage and the fighting system that came along with it was really an interesting topic when the main game first came out, and it is still a hot topic to see that the areas that used to be stuff one key complaint when the game first came out are still being discussed by the players.
A few such specific mixed requests included one such request for the return of the Twitch drops program as it had been a common thing, and when the item was set for distribution there was not enough time for most to complete them. In line with him, another person remarked that Ubisoft should “do the same with sw outlaws” (probably Star Wars Outlaws), so it seems like people who play the games are following and thinking about how Ubi’s different titles post-launch content is being handled.
One of the hard comments was by Madd Tekk who explicitly stated that “the whole community either turned against you or have no time for you anymore.” He also accused Ubisoft of having to get rid of certain mechanics that clash with the majority of a player base. The statements used were intense and to some extent, they do represent the front-line in the ongoing disputes over the direction of the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
The media may not be the game’s best friends; however, it seems that there is still the group of passionate Mirage followers who are over the moon. The one who wrote “Great Reveal 💯 Anxious to play this, hurry up November 😂” is the voice of part of the fan base which has remained loyal to this particular chapter of new cartage creation, and when it comes to them, the more Mirage, the better.
It is very obvious from the situation that the Assassin’s Creed fan base is quite vast in terms of its desires for the saga. Some want to move ahead with Shadows, some want to see improvements to older titles like Odyssey and Valhalla (where one in a wish for the change of the cover art was mentioned), and others are the ones who just stick to the champions of the newest mainline entry before anything else in the Mirage game. Balancing all of these expectations while continuing to move the brand forward is the task that Ubisoft has ahead of them.
The full reveal is now available on YouTube for anyone who wants to see it for themselves. Whether this DLC will be a hit and will attract players back to Baghdad or if it is overshadowed by something better, it still remains to be seen, and one thing is very clear – the Assassin’s Creed community is very volatile.PlayStation and Xbox players are also part of this conversation.
