It appears that Fortnite‘s next big crossover may be even more chilling than the previous ones. According to a trusted leaker ShiinaBR, Terrifier is the only final partnership that was leaked and has not been officially announced by Epic Games yet. Every other leak from the recent data mines has turned out to be correct, with Art the Clown being the last mystery skin yet to be revealed.
In fact, this is the one that is most disturbing. We have seen crossovers bordering on the absurd in Fortnite – from the Marvel superheroes to the Star Wars characters – however, one with a horror movie-clown? This goes beyond everything that we have seen before. It has been believed for quite some time that horror icons could be part of the battle royale, and since the Terrifier series are out, Art the Clown seems to be the perfect mate for Fortnite’s creepy season.
People have reacted very emotionally. One said “Proud of my boy Art” and the other one added “I fucking love you” for the one who spilled the beans. Therefore, one can see that the reactions are being very much over the top in this community. It’s not just like, “Oh, well, that’s interesting”- no, people are very much thrilled at the idea of being a killer clown in their beloved game.
Some people have already started to make plans on how to get Art. One person mentioned that Art may very well come out later and that there could be an edit style of Santa Claus which would make him both a Halloween AND Christmas skin like Jack Skellington. That would actually be a good idea- Epic earlier liked to reuse their cosmetics, and a holiday-themed Art would definitely create an aura of both humor and fear simultaneously.
Similarly, there are also discussions taking place in the music domain about the same. A “mole” says that the band that Ice Nine Kills of Terrifier is a partnership with, is singing about the same movie and that the band is about to release new songs. Is it possible that music will also be involved in all of this? The way I see it, the time is just right with everything happening; but honestly, it is just the clown that excites me the most among the whole mess.
Confusion in the comments section is also somewhat amusing. One person confusedly referred to Art as “her”, which was promptly destroyed with a clown emoji reply. Another one was like, “What about Jason?” which supports the point that some of the horror fans are still eagerly waiting for more iconic slashers to arrive at the party. And the third person brought up Persona, which is indeed a completely different vibe but hey, Fortnite’s collab universe now is infinite.
What further stirs things up is the fact that this highlights Fortnite’s ongoing strategy of merging pop culture and gaming. One player made an interesting observation that, it is really fascinating to see the horror icons becoming part of the regular interactive worlds. Fortnite is not just a game anymore, it has become a huge cultural hub wherein anything from anime characters to horror movie villains can exist harmoniously. And honestly? This is sort of amazing.
It could not be a more perfect time for this pretend partnership. It is as if we are at the doorstep of the spooky season, and Fortnite‘s Halloween events are the most innovative content drops of the year. Imagine Art the Clown being part of it! Imagine him catching you off guard in a dark corner of the map, while you are simply opening some chests!! This is the kind of fear that makes horror crossovers so exciting.
