Call of Duty is known for its Halloween surprises, a situation that brings mixed emotions of excitement and frustration. The Haunting event opens in Black Ops 6 and Warzone on October 9, wherein nightmares and iconic horror contestants battle on the field. Well, what does the community feel? Well, the reaction has been… complicated, to say the least.
So, what exactly is The Haunting? Call of Duty‘s annual Halloween event where the game becomes a spooky playground. This year’s entry looks absolutely insane-looking-wise: Think Jason Voorhees of Friday the 13th, Chucky of Child’s Play, with Michael Myers already on the list according to player reactions. So, it is three legendary horror killers in one game-awesomeness.
An official Call of Duty tweet read, “Will your squad survive the night? (scary emoji),” and honestly, probably not so much with Jason frickin’ Voorhees just chasin’ your ass around Verdansk or whichever map they’re pickin’. @uncleumbra pretty much summed up the hype: “Was that Jason Voorhees? TAKE MY MONEY HOLY SHITTTT🔥” – and honestly, dude, same.
Where things really get weird is the case of division within the community, exactly concerning keep-forward. Or rather, lack thereof. See, apparently, Black Ops 7 is going to come out any minute now (albeit speculated comments inform this), and this local community is pretty mad about these phenomenal Halloween skins potentially not carrying over to the new game. @Putting4Parrrr whispered the question in the ears of many: “Will this skins carry over to the next game? As a Jason fan I’d like to buy but it’d be a shame if they didn’t.”
This is the biggest problem, though. People want to buy the cool horror character bundles, but if they flush down the drain in a couple of weeks right after the arrival of BO7, then off what are they going to benefit? @QuickZooms spelled out, “Wow! I cant wait for these awesome skins I would gladly pay for in Blops 7! Oh… wait… they dont… oh. Okay never mind.” Ouch.
The comment section has basically been a battlefield on the carry-forward stand. Some players are begging for return, like @The_Dylboy who simply stated “Bring back carry forward, we just dont want anything cel shaded,” while other players are getting into heated arguments on why would Activision even release such cool content so close to the launch of the next game. @a_19398405060 went full caps lock on someone: “WELLL GUEESSS WHATTT YOU WONT BE ABLE TO USE IT IN A MONTH ARE YOU HAPPYYYY???????” – which, mood honestly.
Meanwhile, others are concerned more about actual things relating to gameplay. Multiple voices are requesting Rebirth Purgatory mode to come back, with @PTblasian asking, “rebirth purgatory mode pls!!” while @yoloo_thegoat wonders, “Is purgatory coming back.” Then there’s @Bennnjio, for whom there is only one thing: “I only wanna play zombies” — fair enough man, zombies is solid all the time.
If the trailer has indeed lived up to its reputation, then hype about the music is another thing. “@tripokemon22 commented, “Amazing song choice you guys!!” and @RedLitGaming noted, “been cooking with the music choices recently huh?” So, for once marketing team seems to be doing the job right.
And that is just one bit of drama! Some of the players then go on complaining about the usual Call of Duty issues – @martincervini11 ranted, “Fix the servers, kick the cheaters (all of them) and delete ones and for all SBMM or you are done” which, yeah that’s basically the COD community in a nutshell.
Then there is the comparison to Fortnite’s Halloween, with @spiceeed casting shade, “Fortnitemares is better” – bold statement, but we’ll just have to sit back and watch that one play out.
What’s really exciting, though, is how divided the community is about the whole carry-forward issue. Some players are furious they can’t take their purchases to the next game, and some seem to think it’s okay. @Darkplague0098 suggested a compromise: “I think the best solution is just only Transfer the Season 6 stuff only to BO7 and nothing from Season 1 – 5” – which actually makes sense? But will Activision listen? Probably not.
The Haunting event itself looks absolutely insane though. We’ve got Jason, Chucky, Michael Myers—it’s like a horror fan’s dream crossover. @opmdiva summed it up perfectly: “Oh shi now we’re talking 3 killers in one game” – and honestly, that sounds epic. Even if you can only use them for a few weeks before BO7 comes out and renders everything obsolete.
At the end of the day, The Haunting on October 9th is going to be wild. Spooky maps, hordes of horror icons on a leash chasing you, and probably lots of cool Halloween-themed gameplay changes. The carry forward controversy, however, remains a bit of a letdown for a great number of watchers. It’s like being given an amazing Christmas present, mundane as it is, that you know is going to break in a month. How glad you are to receive it but it gives you quite an amount of stress for fun when it goes away.
So, drawing a mark on the calendar on October 9th: squad up and try not to get too attached to your Jason skin because who knows if it’ll still be usable by Thanksgiving. Call of Duty giveth, and Call of Duty taketh away I guess. PlayStation and Xbox players are all gearing up for the event.
