Let me just say, since the Call of Duty Black Ops 7 beta got released, players are recording some absolutely ridiculous shots. We’re talking about some mind-to-mind sniper situations that would make you question whether the person on the other end is playing the same game. Then you have the EmZ clip from Cloud9 that set the community on fire-again agog or just simply pissed off. That’s the drama we’re speaking of.
Basically, EmZ took to Twitter to flaunt that insane sniper play feat, captioning it: “I JUST HIT SOMETHING CRAZY WITH THE SNIPER ON BLACK OPS 7 đ€Ż,” tagging CoD. It shows some quick-sniping rampage that is jaw-dropping for just that immediacy. But here’s the crunch: Not everyone was impressed, and the replies turned out to be a battlefield for opinions.
On the plus side, it did really seem to ignite full support from several players. That because Nicari said, “my đ,” while samori added, “OMG đł awesome EMZ.” One player inquired, “Whatâs your attachments? I canât seem to build a quick sniper.” These people basically want to learn from the best.
But then… came those who couldn’t feel it at all. TC_Blanks entered with, “Itâs 2025 and yall glazing mediocrity.” Ouch. That’s disparaging. Then there was someone else who responded with, “Game is shit,” which is… well, I guess that’s one way to feel about it.
And so it seems the big issue is whether or not the clip was that impressive by old-school standards. Arrington Taylor came out with a fairly thoughtful comment: “I havenât went for killfeed since MW3/BO2 and I must say time has changed with the standards of sniping. I wouldâve been mad that I get a split 5 on screen but overall the clips looks nice and sniping seems smooth on bo7.” So, basically the clip looks good; the only gripe is that back in the day, players used to get mad if a multi-kill was split up on the killfeed. That’s probably a generational thing.
That “split” kept coming up. Another reply from reds just said, “Split so itâs a leftover,” which sounds like it’s criticizing the fact that the multi-kill wasn’t a clean, unbroken feed. And then Ruckus piled on and agreed with both Blanks and said, “Times has changed indeed. I wouldâve mad as fuck my clip got split while sheâs getting excited once she gets the quad not even the 5 on yet.” So there’s definitely this divide between players who think any multi-kill is dope, and the old guard, who have much stricter standards for what makes a truly great clip.
Alongside, here come everybody’s favorite CoD annual grievances. Petes brought SBMM into the conversation, lamenting, “Sbmm doesn’t apply here, anyone else playing the beta gets out in fucked lobbies. Put these streamers in a normal lobby.” And Ic3MaN accused her of being “Another whitelisted streamer,” implying special treatment in matchmaking. These are the same old arguments, just with a new game attached.
But EmZ took it all in stride. She hit back at some of the hate with “bet u guys are fun at parties” and “u guys are comedy. im such a new gen.. smh smh.” Also genuinely excited that Treyarch retweeted the clip: “didn’t realise @Treyarch RT’d this. im gassed đ„č” So despite all the haters, being recognized by the developers kind of made her day.
What glues her together is how this one clip has come to be a microcosm of the entire Call of Duty community. They have hype players who just enjoy cool plays, the nostalgic veterans who remember the “good old days” of sniping, the SBMM complainers, people who think every new CoD is trash, and everything in between. It’s all there in the replies to this one tweet.
Whether or not you think it’s sick, it’s pretty sick in terms of the smoothness of sniper gameplay from Black Ops 7’s perspective. You look at it, and the movement along with the quick scoping seems fluid. EmZ’s gameplay demonstrates that snipers can be aggressive and mobile at the same time, which is really the dream of the quickscoping community. Though, I suppose one user had to interject with “Yea, quick scoping, yawn,” so maybe nobody is a fan of that style.
Later came some totally random interjections just to crack me up. Someone called that gameplay “Fortnite 3.0” which… sorry, I never saw it but okay. Others chimed in with “Nobody cares bro. It’s the same Call of Duty,” which probably was a classic move from the CoD community. Another one called it “Garbage click bait,” which is… the clip is right there so technically, it ain’t that.
At the end of the day, the whole drama shows that Black Ops 7 is imparting the familiar CoD passion. People argue about the quality of sniper clips, meaning that they are invested into the game. So the Beta promises the fast-paced action that players have grown used to with some people disagreeing with one or two plays. Hence, EmZ’s clip is certainly contentious from some quarters, but it is one of those things that keeps people talking, and that’s what really matters in gaming. The devs are going to be pretty happy about all the engagement anyway, even if it’s negative. Really, in the hype-book for a brand-new release, good or bad is good. And if sniping is this insane, I can’t wait to see what other dumb things this will lead to with the whole rest of Black Ops 7 beta flooding it.
PlayStation and Xbox players are all part of this vibrant community.
