One cryptic tweet hoard from FromSoftware stoked the Twitterverse into a frenzy. The official account tweeted, “A faint gleam runs across a steady blade, carving a fell wake through the wretched spawn of the night,” along with a disturbing artwork of a shadowy figure with a glowing object for a weapon. The responses were wild, ranging from requests of DLC and crossplays to yapping about almost anything.
So, what really is Nightreign? That might be the million-dollar question nobody can try to answer. The unknowns come with a somewhat unsettling image of dark fantasy, depicting a shadowy figure with what appears to be a weapon glowing with light- definitely a sight to behold on Elden Ring‘s side. But players are almost tired of these mysterious posts; they want something concrete to cling to.
Summing the community mood beautifully was @itsHeyKyle, “Everytime I see an Elden Ring post expecting a new announcement but it’s just some Shakespeare ass quote.” How many more times are we going to be teased before they give us something real? This insanity is already seeping into the minds of players.
The comment section quickly turned into a massive wish list. To name a few, there were calls from @dominic45275148 and so many others for console crossplay, “give us console crossplay it’s 2025…”. In contrast, @divaishq said, “You must put new bosses, new maps, new weapons, and add microphone, or the game will die.” Can you feel that desperation emanating in the air?
Funny enough, that created the whole debate on whether FromSoftware should put their resources into Elden Ring updates at all. @Dionysu03992395 argues that, “They would rather work on a new game than fully invest their resources into a single game, and even if they did Nightreign wouldn’t be the game to kick it off on.” I mean, it does make sense considering what we’ve seen about FromSoftware bouncing around between projects-mostly.
Wait, what was I even saying? Oh right, the DLC demands. So many comments are just variations on “DLC when,” with @handler_621 actually adding in a crying emoji. In all seriousness, the players are ravenous for new content and those vaguely poetic tweets are growing stale by the day. @hata_david said the thing everyone is probably thinking: “I’ve stopped this – game has become bland and boring with no new contents. Adding new layers of difficulties without new content isn’t incentivising gamers to get back at it at all.”
Now there is a weird tangent about Bloodborne 2 somehow? Like @AllHailHuman asked “where is Bloodborne 2?” and @TakSan1744115 reminded everybody, “They don’t own the ip, go ask Sony for Bloodborne 2.” Classic closure-loop moment for the gaming community, where every discussion inevitably folds back to Bloodborne.
Awkward times start when the replies just are chaotic. “These replies are people living in an alternate reality where everyone is miserable,” argues @HoopaMischief. Fair enough. The Elden Ring community can get quite a lot to deal with when they really want something.
Not to mention those “insane count hours”-from which @cat_theori casually remarks: “Meanwhile I just reached 600 hours,” like it’s no big deal! That’s way more time than some people spend working. The commitment is there, but that also shows why the players are just desperate for some new content they’ve done whatever they possibly could.
The international replies are amusing. There were some comments in Arabic, with @SDTHDZ_ asking “Is this what you call news?” and @Zura279 engaging in some back and forth about being tired of the game. Oh, how wild is the spread of Elden Ring, and they all want in!
This says a lot about how split the community is: Some players are still invested in the game and making very specific requests for character packs and enhanced features, while others have already moved on. @kreheln said, “Getting matched w scrubs named King every day is getting annoying,” implying that multiplayer is still active.
There’s a great number of questions about foundational doubts. Is it going to be DLC? A new game mode? Just some flavor text for something that already exists? It’s a wholesome package of excitement and frustration for players who’ve seen the world around them fade into oblivion and cling to the hope of finally receiving some quality content. So, basically, they want answers, and not in poetry. Knowing FromSoftware, though, they’re gonna get one when they want- demand or not.
So yeah, an average day in the Elden Ring community: Hype, frustration, and Shakespearean quotes that no one truly goes away with. The wait continues with every bald-faced tick registered by players when a vague new tweet is posted in anticipation of a DLC announcement that could very well never come.
