Techland hit the absolutely insane numbers with their very newly published game, Dying Light The Beast, and the community went vibing for it. Just within 12 days of the release, players have logged those insane hours. The official account of Dying Light decided to boast about these world stats on Twitter and contemplate just how well we’ve all done being destructive in Castor Woods. It’s kind of scary really.
So, what do those numbers represent? Well, according to the stats released by Techland, players spent over 1.2 million hours just surviving the night in the game. This is just insane really, because usually that number is bigger in real life; wait, what was I saying-oh right, lots of confusion to that effect in the Twitter replies as well. User Jmilly3111 outright asked, “How is there more hours played at night though, than total hours played?” which is entirely a fair question. Then a Twitter user named dballerxx even commented to say that it is probably real-life hours versus in-game night hours, because an in-game hour only lasts a few minutes. It kind of makes sense, but still, those night survival numbers are insane.
So, can you imagine? Over 28 million infected have been slaughtered by players. TWENTY-EIGHT MILLION. This is some serious zombie gore situation: imagine cleaning that mess up. They killed 28 million infected, and parkour distance caught up in all that madness, with over four billion meters of parkour. That’s like parkouring around the entire world a hundred times or something ridiculously high. I have no clue about big numbers, but that’s a hell of a lot of jumping and climbing.
Now, the responses to the tweet are uncaught gems. Players such as The Watcher adored that concept of global stats, and honestly, I agree. There is something so satisfying about witnessing to what extent we all have been manufacturers of mayhem. Jeremy placed the game “right up there with DL1” and appreciated the little nods to The Following that run all the way up to Sven talking to Crane telepathically and Kyle getting PTSD from the mother; he said he laughed his ass off every time Kyle would scream “Stay the FUCK out of my head,” which, honestly, is pretty much how I feel.
Still, that is not all celebration; players are already calling for patches. User L3thal_Euskal issued a direct command: “Fix HDR in Xbox, add NG+ please,” which is fair. NebulaGrinds asked about New Game+ also, and lamented for the x-ray feature from the first one because they miss “smashing zombies bones in,” which is violently specific, but okay. Elsewhere, 1Hololive_Simp’s bogged down by a treasure map bug stopping them from powering up a gate, which sounds emotionally draining.
What gets really interesting though, is about how many people mention a duplication glitch. User july31 confessed, “hopped back on for the first time in a year and I duplicated military tech so now I’m level 300 with exotic weapons!!” and they’re glad the glitch is still in there. Meanwhile, SnokeZolid asked for stats on “how many unskippable looting animations watched,” which is the most relatable request I’ve ever seen; we’ve all been there, staring at yet another animation while trying to loot everything in sight.
Endymion praised the surprisingly well-written side quests, especially those of The Starchild, detailing that they “feel like main missions especially that second one.” And they aren’t wrong – the writing in this game has definitely stepped up from previous entries. Even the small things, like johno07 mentioning how “Kyle picks a radio up and one of the baron’s men asks him where have you been. He answers, eh I was taking a dump,” those little character moments really do add to the experience.
Physical copy holders haven’t gone silent either; The_Play_Lord claimed, “Numbers would be really higher with physical release…” and sifogaminginfinity outright begged for a physical copy with crying emojis. While paulgritton1 wonders if global target events will return, noting since Techland seemed to have phased out those for DL2.
But really? The general vibes are just pure excitement. Fraktux labeled those numbers as “insane” accompanied by a wide-eyed emoji, and TheeMockingjqy thanked Techland for “making an amazing game” and said they have “way more faith that Dying Light 3 will be a banger for sure!” after playing The Beast. ToOny added that they’re “playing every day and enjoying it as Crane is the best,” which… maybe controversial, but I’m on board with Kyle being all about that vengeance thing.
What is for sure is that Dying Light The Beast has strongly captured that magic which made the first one so special while giving enough newer things to keep things fresh. Parkour feels better than ever, combat feels really satisfying, and the world feels alive in a particular way Techland does so well. Sure, bugs and issues require attention – which is like every other game nowadays – but that solid foundation draws you in.
Does it tell you about the experience itself when such numbers, in less than two weeks, have been collectively put in? Whether duplicating military tech, smashing zombie bones, or simply trying to survive some scary nights- there’s something here for each and every person involved. The community has very clearly left an impression on Castor Woods, and honestly, I can’t wait to see the insane numbers we hit this coming month. Techland has for sure cooked up something special here-and the players are downing it faster than zombies gutbrained. But hey, in a good way.
