Right, so Ghost of Yōtei is available for purchase from PlayStation Store at this very instant! Thus has Sucker Punch‘s sequel to Ghost of Tsushima gone live and the players already immersive in snowy mountains of Ezo. The official PlayStation account only tweeted, “Ezo awaits 🏔️” and linked the purchase of the game. But, an utter mess in the replies, a very good split one would say – hype and hate, like two samurai clans-esprit de corps.
That said, a few gamers really embrace this, like Anas22 going all out, “Happy Ghost of Yōtei day everyone!! The game is absolutely amazing, having so much fun! Ezo is absolutely beautiful! Thank you Sucker Punch for another classic.” That is what most of the waiting crowd have been feeling. EfrainGaming3 stated, “When they say ‘Ezo awaits’ and all you think about is slicing enemies like a true samurai 🍂⚔️🔥 Ghost of Yotei, It’s already mine!” So the hype is definitely real for those who enjoyed the first game and are hungry for more katana action.
On the flip side are the louder parties. They’re calling it “woke” and “DEI slop” while others wouldn’t even understand what they’re talking about. dwarvenarisen was like: “Game looks like DEI slop, an asset flip from the first game made by DEI hires but with activist devs that celebrate assassinations. Also you replaced Jin with a chubby lesbian anti-fa half-head shaved FREAK. How about you make games instead of propaganda and pushing agendas?” Like, wow, that’s a whole lot to unpack. The others are bouncing around these points, with ramengamingtv saying, “nah, hard pass on antifa game” and obsidionrocks chimes in that “This game was supposed to redeem the bs of assassins creed shadows and turned out to be even more trash 🤨 rip woke gaming.” So, backlash out there in regard to some accusing the developers of pushing agendas instead of working on a game to be enjoyed.
Then comes the money talk. A few less would rather not pay for that game. Thepowerfulphonics asked, “Is it good? I won’t be playing it until the price drops,” which is a valid point; games sure are expensive today. Following that is a very “get-off-my-lawn” kind of stance from ultiblackmage: “You upset I spent my money on better things than Ghost of Yotei? Blame the nutters, not me. I was going to buy it before the nutters went crazy.” The controversy has pushed away, it seems, a few people who might have otherwise given it a shot. BrotakuDon added the complaint: “Except for all of us who decided to keep our money,” and thus a certain corner of the gaming community stays quiet with their wallets.
With all of this out of the way, meanwhile, some are just enjoying the game. Dewlaw1017 commented, “The main menu goes too hard. I’m downloading the deluxe edition right now.” LuvYT_ was distracted by the view: “I got sent back to 2020 so quickly 😭 it’s just so easy to get sidetracked and screenshot all this beautiful scenery.” For them, it’s all about experience and graphics, and that’s what Sucker Punch has made such a name for. Photomode_Raro proceeded to congratulate Sucker Punch with “Congrats on the release! Have fun, everyone!” So there are some flows expressing love.
Hold on, I was saying? Yes, the split. Funny thing about this is how the game causes such a huge split. I think one bunch of people are just really hyped for the adventure and the world, and the other bunch makes a serious critique of the game for having perceived agendas. Then there are the doubtful ones, those who might check it out later or just ignore all the noise. Like aceyflamez who just said “I’m good. Nice to know tho,” pretty undecided.
At the end of the day, Ghost of Yōtei is waiting at Ezo for you to explore. The social buzz has heated up for the title, agreeing or disagreeing. Sucker Punch again has made a game, as always, and the gaming world never keeps quiet. Maybe just proceed and get it if you are a bit curious or wait for a sale if you are still on the fence. For better or for worse, the samurai saga carries on.
