The official Marvel Rivals Twitter account tweeted the line, “The Homo-Superior mindset #MarvelRivals,” and it did not take long before the entire community said something back. Talking would be, like, a keyboard war about whether Magneto is the laziest tank to have ever existed or low-key pretty much a genius. The actual tweet was an image, probably of Magneto doing whatever it is he does, but the replies… oh boy… the replies are a battlefield.
Strstyler came in right away, saying, “He’s still so boring to play tho.” And that’s pretty much the tone that would sustain the rest of the responses. It’s like that one comment at a party that splits the whole room in half. All of a sudden, everyone has to choose sides. Are you a Magneto enjoyer, or are you a Magneto hater? Apparently, there is no middle.
Then we hear back from players like bac0ntoast, who says, “Magneto is actually fun to play and you can push for kills as him easily because he’s sorta hard to punish,” which is honestly a good argument-if you can hardly punish a character, usually that character’s got a whole lot going for them. But then Salman__Sarhan jumps in on the thread and explains that it isn’t even about being OP, but about characters where you “almost fully just use left click and throw in a couple other abilities. Stand and shoot kind of heroes, which is a group Mag is a very big part of.” So then, the complaint is that he’s too simple? Or that he’s not flashy enough? It’s all over the place.
And now we’re onto Overwatch comparisons. Because, of course, somebody’s got to relate it to Overwatch! First point: hero shooter, so it will happen. Goro_Majima_88 says, “Magneto is just a more boring sigma, but its because his Projectile is so strange and isn’t as satisfying.” However, now the sigma comparison enters the stage? IrishAndroid follows that up with a gif and a “this but me as Sigma in OW.” So is the idea that if you’ve played Sigma, maybe you’d like Magneto? Or just maybe Magneto feels worse? Absolute mess.
Some players are supporting their mains here; PTheChosenOne says, “As a Magneto main, yes I do find him boring, but thats what makes him fun.” That’s a whole mood right there. Sometimes those simple, linear characters are the ones you can rely on. They might not dazzle you to death with flashy plays but they get things done. And _reaperACTUAL points to the real issue, “Need more tanks like him, the lack of main tanks is unfortunate.” So maybe part of the reason people are even talking about this is because the tank options are still limited, so everybody is scrutinizing the ones we have.
In the meantime, the real ones embrace the flavor. UVubble263 praises the voice acting: “The voice lines. ‘Fear Magneto’ & ‘For Mutant kind’ were inspired. That voice actor was starving. That voice actor wanted a check. Bro was trying to get out of the hood”. Very respectful of the voice acting; it indeed does stand out for this character. CypherOfSolace dives into the lore and corrects the tweet itself: “>Homo He says “For mutantkind” not mankind or humankind”. Gotta get the terminology right for the Master of Magnetism.
But perhaps the funniest part is still the discussion about playstyles. IMGOINSSJ2 unleashed a whole rant: “This is the gayest post I’ve ever seen. This just tells me they don’t create space by walking forward and is a cart princess that waits for the fight to come to them. Probably get hard countered by a Peni 💀🤦🏽♂️”. Which is… a lot. Then comes the reply from takinyouonavoij: “You sound like the type of player who throws during overtime because your chasing a kill on the other side of the arena”. Classic gamer insult: accusing someone of throwing. Huskerdust76864 later offers one in response: “Brother… git gud”. That’s sometimes the whole message.
It’s fascinating to see how split people can be over a single character design. Some want him to be more mobile, like masseslee who says, “I just want him to fly so I can feel more like Magneto I mean come on Angela a damn tank is flying.” Fair point; why can’t the guy who controls metal fly when other tanks can? Then others seem to really appreciate his current kit for what it is—a solid, space-controlling tank.
Really, the whole conversation demonstrates how personal a decision to pick a hero is in these games. What one player finds boring, another finds reliable and effective. It’s not really about who’s right or wrong; it’s about what fits your style. And since Marvel Rivals is still very new, these conversations are going to be going on as the players discover what the meta is and what works for them.
So yeah, the Marvel Rivals community is apparently having a moment over Magneto. Is he boring? Is he based? The answer seems to be: maybe; depends on who you ask. And that’s honestly kinda funny with these games. The debates. The people that have such strong opinions. People defending their mains to the death. It’s all very much part of the ecosystem. Now, if you excuse me, I gotta hop into the game and sow some Magneto to see what all the fuss is about; For mutantkind, or whatever.
