Treyarch just dropped some major Black Ops 7 Endgame co-op news. As the developers declared last week in an interview, new content and updates will be coming to the mode right through the third season. And they elaborated: “We’re actively having, in development right now, is updates all the way through Season Three.” With the stage of development the mode is still in, this is a pretty clear declaration of theirs.

Every player excited for Black Ops 7 would take this with pride, in particular those who really enjoy playing co-op a lot more than they do alone. The Co-Op Endgame is going to receive a lot of focus, and that’s a very good thing because Treyarch has already set the long-term schedule for it. That implies that they are really going to back it fully and not just throw it in as something of an afterthought. And that is what we all want, honestly, after some of the… let’s say, rocky launches we’ve had of late.

Now, that reaction, well, the usual mixed bags from the internet crowd. Some people are over the moon about it. Hat3Asylum mentioned that the wingsuit gameplay looked incredible and hopes that Endgame will be treated with the same love as Zombies has been in previous installments. Which is understandable, isn’t it? Treyarch’s Zombies mode is an institution. If they treat Endgame with the same level of respect, then we have something special. While, on the other end, PTRCrispy straight up said, “GOOD I hope this mode actually goes somewhere to hold me over till DMZ 2.” So very much along the lines of: well, this somewhat fills the gap for now until the universe finally shapes up around DMZ version 2.

On the flip side, that’s when you get the usual calls to bash the previous title at mere mention of Call of Duty. LxrdRxnger went in: “Do they have plans for a working functioning game with less bugs and glitches at launch because black ops 6 was a shit show at launch and it’s still a broken mess?” Ugh. And that sentiment resonates across many corners of the community; it’s a really valid question. Great, talking about content on the horizon; but what does it even matter when on day zero all you get is a complete shambles? Treyarch needs, desperately, to nail the launch this time if they want to regain that credibility in the first place.

The good ol’ SBMM (Skill-Based Matchmaking) discussion was of course started immediately. “SBMM removed is all the content we need,” at least as far as Daan Demarest was concerned. To that, with some logic behind his comment, Avi_Jey responded to another user, “How would SBMM affect a PvE mode? Think before you typing nonsense.” And it definitely is something to ponder since SBMM is mostly a concern for PvP stuff anyway. It’s totally different with a cooperative PvE mode like Endgame. It’s all about teaming against AI rather than stressing about players at your skill level. What if… just maybe, Endgame could be the fun area away from that?

There were also a few good suggestions. g0rilla9 said, “Would be cool to get the Blackout map and the scrapped CW map as content for it ngl.” That kind of fan-service, deep-cut content will surely stir the community. Turning beloved old content into new content is generally never a bad move. WhiteManReborn hoped, “Hopefully, the updates go all the way through season 6. Mode seems promising from the sounds of it.” Season 6? That’s shooting for the stars but does speak volumes about how long the community wants to see support.

There’s some real human life behind these replies, too. One conversation between Swiftor and Jeff Ruble (Elks70) had to do with Jeff being unemployed and, thus, able to play again. Jeff said, “Now that I’m jobless… I can finally play again lol.” Swiftor responded, “yeah man, get back in these games while ya can, you’ll be back in the workforce before ya know it.” A reminder that despite all the hype and bashing, these games are a big part of people’s real lives, whether they’re on PlayStation or Xbox.

It means something…at least. Treyarch seems to be putting major emphasis on signaling that Co-Op Endgame mode will be huge for Black Ops 7. They’ve planned future support for it, more than can be said for a few modes that get dropped after just one season. The community is intrigued but cautious after recent history. Since they truly want the stable game first as a priority, then a real long-term support to see the light of day. If Treyarch can nail launch and back it up with a Season 3 update, the Endgame could actually become the new long term. But if it does everything wrong… well, you get the picture. Classic case of “wait till you see it,” but for now, the promise of extended co-op content is definitely something to look forward to. Or at least cautiously.
