This enormous lore bomb is driving the community crazy. The official PlayOverwatch account is releasing another comic called ‘Reconciliation’ with a dramatic reading given by Ramon Tikaram, who voices the omnic leader Ramattra. The question, however, comes down to: “Does the bond between brothers stand the test of a global conflict, or does it just disintegrate right before their eyes?” Tragically, such weighty matters were nearly overshadowed by what the players spotted in the panels.
Now, the comic focuses so much on Ramattra and his brother, or so it seems, that the aftermath of the nul sector invasion. However, the people losing it after clicking on the Blizzard link were just not worried about that. In this artwork is what appears to be the unmistakable outline of the new hero. Somebody with a sword. And those Overwatch fandoms have hawk eyes. They saw it instantly.
The rather beautiful chaos begins under the tweet. One player called Death outright admitted it, saying, “Casually showing the assumed next hero in a comic. I see you.” And it was not just him. Exotic posted a screenshot accompanied by the single question: “new hero?” This started a whole surge of possibilities. Another user, Onframer, then named her: “Yes, She-Wolf of Retaliation, the 45th hero.” Is that a real leak, or just a joke? The community is already speculating about her side—if she is with Talon or not—based on when she appears in the story. So fast.
Apart from the new hero buzz, almost all the praise was showered upon the comic narrative itself. Players seem to truly desire that more of the Overwatch story is told, in a way Zunovsky summed up common sentiments saying, “i’m always happy to get more story, but i can’t help but think how good this would’ve been as a cinematic.” Now, that is a vibe. Animated shorts are legendary, so comics are cool too, but you really can’t help thinking are they really that good without any animation and sound? Another player, Vyeeeend, even suggested that Ramattra should get an “Arcane style animation,” and okay, that would be sick. Can you imagine?
Love for Ramattra as a character runs huge deep. Javier just screamed, “I FUCKING LOVE RAMATTRA. RAMGOAT. GODMATTRA,” which pretty much sums up the whole energy of his entire fanbase. People are begging for more content on Ramattra outside of lore—skins, dance emotes, the whole deal. Senzai658 was right on point asking, “Ramattra lore? Now can we get Ramattra skins? Ramattra dance?” The need is real.
The usual sad comments about PvE made a swift appearance as well, as expected after the drop-off of an Overwatch story. One reply thread went right into it, with one user saying plainly, “take what you get man because pve’s not coming back.” Oof. That one stings a little, a reminder of what was promised and then scaled back. But it also shows how much players connect with these characters and want to experience their stories in-game, not just in external media. User hearts_shutter basically offered their life to Blizzard Entertainment if they’d just “DROP AN ANIMATED SERIES OR ANOTHER ROUND OF STORY MISSIONS.” The passion is… intense.
The comic art is getting heaps of praise. Users tagged the artist, velsmells, saying things like “why u highkey carrying us bro” and gushing over the colors and composition. Really good for the artists to get shine, for sure.
So what does this all mean? The thing is, Blizzard is obviously still investing in the Overwatch story, which is a big win for the players who have invested themselves into the world. A voice actor reading a comic is an interesting way to push some content out. But the main thing that everyone is chatting about is that sneaky new hero tease. It’s not an official announcement. It’s not a trailer. It’s just a shadow figure in a comic. That’s pretty brilliant, though, isn’t it? It gets everybody talking, discussing, and hyped without any official commitment. The community is basically doing all the promotional work for them.
Is it the sword hero we’ve all been asking for, like, forever? Probably. The silhouette is unmistakable to say that. I feel this is the very first step into a full rollout; a soft reveal for the next character in the game. Between the lore expansion of a fan-favorite like Ramattra and a tease about what’s next, Blizzard has successfully captured the full attention of the Overwatch community once again. So, all that is left is to sit back and take the official reveal, hoping that just maybe some of that story content does make its way back into the game. Because we certainly have the appetite for it, bigger than ever.
