Lately, PlayStation added some more details about Silent Hill f. What has been the collective reaction? The official statement reads, “The game evolves the series’ signature horror vibes while also venturing into its own direction,” more hands-on details were shared, and a release date was set for September 25th. But going across the reply thread is like walking down the foggy streets of the town-you never know what ghastly thing you will come across.
With this spontaneous information, everyone has somewhat filled with hopes and dreams. The “8-BIT BANGERZ” account nailed the mood perfectly with, “Fresh direction, classic scares… Silent Hill is back!” That’s pretty much the groovy vibes that the devs are going for. And then, “Left to Memory” just commented, “vibes are immaculate,” followed by a little ghost emoji. So much vibe. “The Flowstate Ronin” has, for once, literally started to anticipate Halloweens because of this one, and I would gladly join. While the composer “Samantha J. Foster” entered to say that she loves the setting but wishes it wasn’t a horror game, which is a complete mood change, but hey, to each their own.
Here go the juicy tidbits. Console wars rage on, as always. Luffygearmonger starts a full event thread basically stating that the way to play is PC, for mods. Now there is some back and forth about it. An account called ‘llIlIllllIIlllllIl,’ made mostly of l’s and I’s, jumps in with “Pc > midstation, no one will be buying,” this must be a sitcom-worthy moment in gamer toxicity. But ‘mythuZZ_’ hit back with “Dude shut up and let people play wherever they want,” the voice of reason we all need right now. ‘HunterSoles1’ has a valid point on recent releases in terms of performance issues on PC: I own a good rig on PC, but I still whip my PS5 out if I can. And this is where a never-ending discussion begins.
Then it gets weirder. And weird because when the conversation on mods for the PC turned quite sinister. Regarding the mods comment, ‘Zylva’ said, “Right… mods. Seeing as Hinako is a teenager, I can’t even begin to imagine the perverted shit modders are going to do.” Then another user, ‘鬱 N,’ escalated it with, “There are already complaints that you can’t see her panties when she is like 13 or 14.” Wait, what was I saying? Oh right, the game. Honestly, it’s disturbing that this is even a topic of discussion with regard to a horror game announcement. It kills the spook vibes and replaces them with something disgusting.
Vibe-wise, not everyone was keen on that “true to its roots” bit. ‘A.W. 🎮📖🇦🇷’ dropped an immediate dismissal of marketing line, “True to its roots my ass.” Then ‘PES/eFootball България’ added a little shade, ‘Looks like PS2 game!’ Maybe it’s supposed to look that retro. Or maybe they just think it looks dated. Soon after, the classic woke complaint was voiced by ‘Javier Pantin’: ‘The game is woke,’ with no further explanation. What does that even mean in the context of a Silent Hill game? Is the fog too progressive?
In all that chaos, a few scientists were thrown in: ‘Koleq’ stated, “I’ll wait for a sale,” which is such a mood for a lot of gamers today given how pricey games are. And ‘PlayStation Fan’ was just happy about the steelbook case, I mean, hey, collectibles are cool. But then there’s ‘Chadwick,’ who decided of the announcement to remind PlayStation to ‘Fix your POS controllers…’ and bam – whole other issue. On the other hand, ‘VatoLoco722’ was silently awaiting the PlayStation tweet about some colored cover plates for the PS5 Pro, like, sir, this is a Silent Hill announcement.
It’s a mad mix of hype, doubt, platform tribalism, and just downright odd. The promise of Silent Hill f is indeed a big one—evolving the horror while keeping the soul. But all the online lore tells a tale that for every person ready to be terrified, there is another ready to throw down about some unrelated topic. The game is scheduled to drop on the 25th of September. It’ll be exciting to see if the game can poke through the clutter and bring about some old-time scares. Here’s hoping the only haunting will be from the monsters in the game rather than from the comments section.
