The name of these glitches actually speaks volumes; big one was indoor rain-making it rain inside buildings-so you expect how nasty the experience was inside. Then day-night cycle would just put a wrench in it. But here’s the kicker: these devs will be working through the WEEKEND for this to be fixed at the earliest!
Extra are the hours poured in to push the patch out as early as possible for PC players, early next week for consoles, and guess what – to allow this emergency fix, they’ve had to shelve the ultra-anticipated APEX Car Skin everyone has been eagerly awaiting-the skin will now be bundled with this patch instead of being released separately.
Another blessing! As an apology for those punishing bug issues, Techland will give away the Hellhound Shotgun for FREE NOW! Just check your stash, as your shotgun awaits there for you. And if you are going after the Burning Wolf weapon set, you can get your axe by killing zombies in Castor Woods over a 4-hour period this launch weekend.
“Mess”, on the other hand, is there; while some players praise the rapid reaction of the game to unorthodox weather conditions, the comment section prepared to explode with a whole bunch of other issues. Pilgrim Outpost’s website seems to have just conked out for some. Like for a while, people had been saying that they couldn’t claim the Twitch drops; can’t redeem the codes; and some have played for over four hours and can’t get their Burning Wolf Axe.
Slowly a player has spilled, “Despite playing for over 20 hours, Pilgrim Outpost still claims I’m not eligible for the burning wolf axe,” which is… yikes. And it’s not just one person-a whole thread of grazers is experiencing the same problem. The official account did respond, stating they only track actual gameplay time and to wait for trackers to update, but still… pretty frustrating.
Then, there’s also the issue of crafting economy that totally “sucks,” according to the very straightforward player. Others have been wondering when ray-tracing will be implemented (one dude even asked in Polish: “Implementacja raytracing, kiedy?” meaning “Ray tracing implementation, when?”). Complaints about performance mode being too blurry have popped up, with requests for a balanced mode rolling in, alongside inquiries about why dark zones are safe during the day when they ought to be dangerous.
For one, bugs that actually break gameplay are another player issue. One complained that they got stuck in Baron Chemical Plant, where it tells you to kill all soldiers but doesn’t complete the objectives even after doing so. Oof, that’s a big one.
But aside from all these technical things, the larger player base seems to really love this game. One player chimed in, “Thank you, I’m going through this problem with internal rain, it’s horrible to play this way, but it’s good to know that you’re already working on this fix, that said, I’m loving this work of art of yours.” That’s actually a wholesome one.
The day/night cycle stuff seems to be kind of a big discussion point, too; some of the players are wondering why it is apparently less dangerous to venture forth during the day as opposed to the days in the preceding game. One comment put it eloquently: “In the second game it was too dangerous during the day. Now there is no reason to risk going out at night,” so that’s one interesting gameplay discussion.
There’s also that line of thought that the game feels like a cash grab with fetch quests, our player here even said, “This is a DLC not a full game. $40 is what it should’ve been sold as.” Ouch. But most comments are constructive feedback on particular issues rather than more personal complaints about the overall game quality.
And Techland’s response time? Pretty friggin’ good. They’re clearly listening to the community’s feedback and working round the clock on the most pressing issues. Prioritizing and yet delaying the hyped APEX Car Skin to address game-breaking glitches paints a nice picture of a developer willing to put player experience ahead of cosmetics. That always goes in their favor.
Also doesn’t hurt a lovely little DLC for that Hellhound Shotgun—who says, “We’re working on it right now,” rather than, “Here’s something cool while you wait”? That’s community engagement done right.
For now, if you are currently playing Dying Light, open up your stash and expect to see that free gun; keep your eyes open for the patch to hit. Also, you might want to avoid indoor areas till this whole indoor rain thing is fixed-neither one would ever want their loot to be wet; that is not immersion from any angle.
That the team is reveling in working-through the weekend would never surprise a chunk of those who take games seriously in trying to iron these issues out ASAP. Let’s hope the patch smooth-ass out all these rough edges because when this thing works, it’s apparently fantastic according to most players. We just need to work out these launch week growing pains first.
So yeah, if you’re dealing with indoor rain or day/night cycle weirdness, help is on its way soon. Oh, and you’ve got yourself that free shotgun, too. A pretty decent weekend for the dev team, and now if they could sort out Pilgrim Outpost Website…
