A crazy thing happened: Epic Games launched the fresh Fortnite mode, named Delulu. And the reactions come with a lot of variety. It was somewhat crazy. The gist was to pair up with random players and then betray them for the Victory Royale and the very few Crashbrella umbrellas as cosmetics. Sounds fairly straightforward, doesn’t it? But, the Fortnite community seems to be having many opinions about it.

First, what exactly is Delulu? That should be asked. The name on its own is slightly confusing; is it an abbreviation for delusional? Maybe that’s the intention. The mode requires you to team up with strangers but then betray them to stay alone. It’s kind of like Among Us-meets-Fortnite, except there’s more yelling and chaos. Win? For the prize, it’s that Crashbrella. And yes, it does look nice; however, these guys are putting themselves through some serious hell just to get it.

The reactions to the actual Fortnite tweet have really traversed all emotions. Some people are really loving it. Bambii88 just tweeted, “shhhh 🤣🧜,” which, for sure, I think means they had a blast. Bazoo Studios also said that they enjoyed playing with Ninja. So, for some, it’s quite the party.

But then there is the other side. A whole lot of angry people. User SMPandanic pretty much screamed, “FUCK THIS UMBRELLA MAN.” And they were far from alone. Several people said that winning felt almost impossible. One player said that they’ve been trying to do it since 10 in the morning, having little breaks here and there; they get to 4th place, and then they’re just killed in some “BS.” The struggle is real.

There are the toxic reports of this one. Several players say the lobbies are filled with racial slurs being screamed, shouting at each other, potpourri of nasty behaviors. Mecrule put it on record, saying: “This game mode sucks just people screaming the n word and the hard r.” Yikes. That is looking bad for any game mode. Another player, Eddie081, considered the behavior “toxic,” and begged they’ll never play it again after getting the umbrella.

Meanwhile, others want Delulu to remain. DesmondPeterson begged, “Make this mode permanent please,” while Adonis shouted in all caps, “CAN WE KEEP THIS MODE PLZZZZZZZZZZ.” Then, some want it gone forever. Cheyenne Hutchins called it the “Worst game mode ever,” while 404 not found swore it had turned them away from playing Fortnite forever. So yeah, there’s a very divided opinion.

There also seem to be a few strategy discussions happening in the replies. Players want to share insight into how to actually win this thing. User June offered, “sneak around and hide and carry whites for heal off at the end it’s not hard trust.” NPC_Sophie chimed in saying they won while not being able to hear the chat, which is probably the best advantage in this mode, anyway. Meanwhile, Chubby_Milkman told others he was willing to help them get the umbrella, which is a pretty good deed.

That whole teaming then betraying setup creates some weird situations. BuzzardThunder added that in their lobby, no one was shooting each other and just let it all go to a heal-off, which is kind of against the spirit of the mode, but hey, whatever works. TheRealT_Keenan admitted they lost 2nd place due to not knowing you don’t win with your squad, which is a cruel way to learn the rules.

Server problems, then. One player alleged playing on 150 ping in Delulu Mode, calling the servers “dog shit,” and that changing regions didn’t help. Having lag in a mode that calls for pinpoint timing on betrayals and survival is the nightmare definition.

Then of course, come the usual Fortnite requests: someone asking for Rumbleverse to come back (RIP) and another person telling Epic their “complete plan to make the game peak again.” Classic Twitter.

Then again, what about Delulu? It will take chaos; it’s an annoyance for many, allegedly filled with toxic players-but some actually having a lot of fun with it and sharing their strategy. It would be presumptuous to say if Epic planes on keeping it or not. However, the Crashbrella is what is going to be the rare flex for the ones that managed to tough it out and get the win out of this chaos. For the others… well, maybe stick to regular Battle Royale.
