So, Fortnite is, once again, making history with the next big concert in the game, featuring the legendary duo Daft Punk. The in-game countdown is the latest addition, allowing players to keep track of the time left for the much-anticipated digital extravaganza to commence. The much-awaited event is still a week away, according to the buzz.
There came a tweet from the ever-famous HYPEX saying “1 WEEK UNTIL THE EVENT FT. DAPT PUNK,” followed by “COUNTDOWN IS NOW IN-GAME,” with either an eye emoji or a classic stare. Just going crazy on the hype! Players are losing their minds with this collaboration, calling this the “dream collab” they’ve been waiting for their whole lives.
Hold on a sec; rewind. For those just slightly out of the loop, Daft Punk are geniuses from France, the electronic music duo who literally shaped an era of electronic music. Those are the guys-in-helmets with tracks like “One More Time” and “Get Lucky”: truly bangers, beloved tunes that deep down inside, every single person knows, or at least should know. These big-ball acts hit for Fortnite now: another big musical injection into the battle royale universe by Epic.
RubenKings’ reply to the original Tweet says it all. He said, “It still feels unreal man my #1 dream collab,” pretty much summarizing the community’s feelings. Another user Los The Dog tossed in a cryptic comment, “One More Time!!!”, referencing Daft Punk and perhaps what everyone is feeling inside.
Meanwhile, a couple of players aren’t quite celebrating the announcement. They’re even taking their skepticism a bit farther by pondering if in fact Daft Punk is confirmed to be part of the collaboration. JTwoshoes19296 pretty much cut through all the noise with this thought-provoking question: “Do you actually know it’s Daft Punk or are you just spouting bullshit again?” Fair question, really. Leaksters are not always right, though HYPEX does maintain a solid track record.
This adds all the more pressure to the technical side. OGPartyAnimal said, “Day number 2 and I’m still having matchmaking errors,” which is terribly timed given the looming presentiment of a huge event. Another player called GoldPalmerr just said, “Hopefully fortnite can fix their stupid ass game first,” which sounds suspiciously close to suggesting that since there is an in-game event of this scale, there should be a bit of certainty behind it first.
The timing is very refreshing. Multiple users have been questioning the exact timing of the events, with Monks0w0 asking, “What time will it be at?” while Flimmzyytt wonders, “Will it switch to a 24-hour clock when there’s only hours left or…” Pretty valid questions, since Fortnite events have always been spectacles on a worldwide scale catering to players being present in different time zones.
NFT_GOD_666’s comment, “9 years of waiting and it’s finally happening,” was slight exaggeration, albeit capturing on the hype of the moment. Another user, JawsClawsPaws, stated it a tad more moderately, yet still wire-high, “6 years of waiting and it’s finally happening,” so clearly, people have wanted this collab for quite a long time.
The chatter goes on about what the event means beyond the concert, as user ChaddyLF wishes, “Please be jam tracks too I beg,” referring to music items that allow players to play instruments in-game, which would make a lot of sense for a Daft Punk collaboration, given how iconic and recognizable their music is.
Down to visuals, some stuff is already going down in-game. Pear_Gigi, after the announcement, says, “the Hiccups emote says Chapter 6, MS 1,” hinting at content alongside the event. Rand0mPers0nOTI jumped in with “The monolith eventually turns gold and yellow,” sounding like another kind of in-game metamorphosis coming due in the nearer half of next month.
Here are the downers. User, kuxrrra, bluntly asked, “Do we care about this ?” Another user, xanderHpinkevig, replied, “honestly i don’t i’m so depressed right now.” This is such a mood. But the huge chunk of the bigger community is feeding off this positive hype.
