Most random and kinda funny thing Blizzard did: had a blog post for that Overwatch 2 player who simply cannot decide whom to play next. Could I suggest the stars if these people drain their five minutes character selecting time before every match? The official Overwatch twitter account promoted this Weekly Recall campaign with a zodiac sign for each hero, balancing stars and scales emojis. Either it is a genius marketing move or the community team really had too much caffeine.
The tweet reads, “Can’t decide which Hero to pick up next? Let the stars be your guide” with a link to the blog that breaks down the signs and gives some heroes for that sign. Libra is dealt Mercy, Symmetra, Orisa, and Soldier 76, and the community was left arguing about the grouping. Long story short-one Twitter user @Paacreek said “Symmetra 1000000% embodies the Libra essence! Balance in all things and ‘If you disrupt my peace and harmony, I will disrupt your existence!'” which, honestly? Does make a bit of sense. Then @SSJ4LG responded, saying, “Try again with Libra, tf you mean Mercy? Moira or Zen are the ‘Balance’ characters, hell Moira is androgenous and Zen is all Balance, personality wise I would say Juno, Mercy makes no sense,” and you could almost feel the passion here. People take their zodiac really seriously when it comes to assigning their main.
Others were just shocked at how perfectly accurate it was! @”pachimercy” another player, says,”this is scarily spot on” with a screenshot of their sign’s heroes. Meanwhile @Zer0MainsRiley had to admit, “Well I main Ashe, sojourn, Lucio, and doom so… I already picked up one of the characters in my zodiac (sojourn),” either crazy coincidence or that Overwatch team really does know their audience. Meanwhile, @NixLupus31 said with utter despair, “This is nearly the opposite of what i like to play 😭.” It’s really a vibe.
Some bonuses just weren’t sold on it. The gentleman by the name of @PhantomEnderium plainly expressed, “”zodiac sign” who wasted their time writing thing 💀,” which was probably fair to say. And @wingliders offered one more sarcastic jab, “don’t care just give me loot boxes,” which is probably on the brains of a couple of players. Then, @AskFareeha said it was “such a cute idea!!!” but commented that their moon sign was more accurate than their sun sign-that’s some next-level astrological analysis for a video game hero pick.
Some of the replies went off topic as well, that would definitely be of Overwatch fashion. @strafeapp and @idenvytheleaves both beginning mentions of ‘gency,’ which is the Genji/Mercy ship that players have been begging to become canon forever. One stated, “they’ve been teasing gency forever, just make it official already,” and the other added, “when are you guys gonna make gency canon, i mean tbf it basically is already…” So even when Blizzard Entertainment talks zodiac signs, the shippers find a way.
With a little hiccup too: @Anubirai pointed out, “Whomever posts these really needs to pay attention to the link they’re posting… Here’s the one you were trying to post 🙄,” with a fixed link. Because, of course, there is a broken link in the official tweet. That is so on-brand for gaming social media teams.
What really is interesting is how many people actually play with the heroes their sign suggests every day. @Polz_27 says: “Im Leo and i main Genji, Pharah and Bap, crazy haha😈” and @mochapwuppy replies, “as a virgo i can confirm i love playing ashe !!” So maybe there really is some zodiac-to-hero connection? Or maybe Blizzard just knows its audience way too well.
The blog itself is actually very detailed, judging by some quotes being shared among players-each sign gets 3-4 hero suggestions plus an explanation of how they relate. This is the type of fluff content that does not really affect how one plays the game but sparks conversation and engagement-the probable intent behind it. Judging by hundreds of responses and quotes, it is working. The players are arguing, sharing their signs, and having a very good time with it.
Maybe for some, those who do not believe in astrology, this is just a fun way to test out a hero they normally would not choose. Who knows? Maybe the zodiac sign could lead you to your new main, or at least be something to talk about while waiting for the match to find you. This really captivated the Overwatch community team-some think it is ridiculous. But really, in a game where you can be a genetically engineered gorilla from the moon, is picking stars to represent heroes even that far-out?
