With the availability of hundreds of PS5 and PS4 games through the Game Catalog on Netflix for PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers, Sony’s official Ask PlayStation Twitter got drenched with complaints regarding Remote Play, technical glitches, and others. The tweet was an informative one that provided a link with instructions on how to access the catalog and encouraged the service with emphasis on how much it’s worth. But, within seconds, the gamers had completely changed the topic to discuss technical issues with Remote Play: issues that require remastering.

Sony is out here pumping their PlayStation Plus Game Catalog, huh? The beauty of it is that that is hundreds of games to be downloaded by a subscriber to the Extra or Premium tier. It’s just a massive library of content for people who want to get in without buying any game themselves. The response from the community? Not what they expected.

The comments section was flooded with complaints about remote play being broken of all sorts, not hype and excitement. An EMan yells in all caps, “WHAT ABOUT REMOTE PLAY? ITS BEEN DOWN FOR 6+ HOURS, FIX IT,” and I feel him. Many others joined in on the chorus of anger, asking when Remote Play would be up and running again, with issues reported by some since 10 AM and others for more than six hours. It’s been quite a lot of time to wait when all you want to do is play some basement gaming or in some other part of the house.

Hold on now! Proposals are coming in as well. Like the Dante’s Inferno remake? Okay, sure. Something black for regional pricing for Latin America with #NoAlDolarPSN, that is, “No to Dollar PSN”-basically asking for fair price for their region. And then there were those advocating for PS3 games promotion, which at least made some level of sense since the Premium tier is supposed to lay the groundwork for classic games.

Tripping over to Bloodborne. There was a query about the absence of a Game of the Year edition and then a direct request for a PC port. Classic Bloodborne fan shenanigans which we absolutely adore. One more went ahead and asked for a Legend of Dragoon remake, which I have to say, was brilliant back then.

It’s kind of fun in a way because Sony’s busy promoting its subscription service and all that these guys can complain about are things that aren’t working yet and their own wishlist. Like you try to show some feature on your phone, and they just go, “yeah, but the battery life sucks.” Disconnected.

Now, that’s where Remote Play steps in as the biggest pain in the ass. For those unfamiliar with Remote Play, it is just the streaming from PS5 or PS4 games to phones, tablets, or PCs. It’s super useful if the TV is occupied by somebody else or if you wanna play in some other room. Finally, after hours of being down? Man, that’s serious frustration. Particularly when one pays for the service.

The catalog in itself is actually quite good-with Ghost of Tsushima, Returnal there with a bunch of other games. But technical bugging can really put a downer on the value. It’s like having one’s all-you-can-eat buffet where the forks are dirty-you know?

Sony hasn’t replied with a statement to these complaints as of now, just dropped the catalog info, and scurried away, leaving the players to rant in the comments. Pretty typical corporate social media behavior, honestly. Post the good news, ignore the problems.

An interesting thing to see is what players really do get passionate about; beyond getting new games, they want the features they already pay for to work correctly. And they aren’t shy about demanding that classic games be resurrected or ported to other platforms. The community knows what it wants, and it gets loud when it asks.

At the end of the day, Xbox has a lot to offer with its game catalog, but technical issues and demanding players remind that there is still room for improvement. Probably next time Sony advertises the service, Remote Play will be fixed by then. Or at least Bloodborne on PC. A gamer can dream, right?
