Oh-ho-here is the bombshell from Square Enix: Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade becomes fully Multiplatform! Already stuck so long on PlayStation; Cloud and company shall be off to Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on January 22nd, 2026. Dare I say it, 2026? Halfway there! For one thing, we have a date at the very least.
This track went out from the official Final Fantasy VII Twitter account, and the gaming community went into a frenzy. Many of them, that is. Hype, a bit of confusion, some skepticism: that’s what the reply thread looks like. Crusader II Elessar stated that they were definitely going to buy the game, but added, “I hope we get a similar deal for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth given the long wait.” So, yeah. Fair. Rebirth is the second part of the remake trilogy, and Xbox players have had to also wait to get their hands on it.
Yet some are not pleased about it. Some among the Xbox camp are worried in terms of sales. SteveJ_Elstone joked, welcoming, “Welcome to the world of no sales on Xbox, January 22, 2026.” Oof! While that is harsh, I’m glad it was also put out there, for the Grand Debut of Final Fantasy has never been able to do well in sales on Xbox, certainly more comparative to PlayStation, so that is a valid issue. Another person, JapanHatesXbox, continued to plead with Square Enix to “please cancel the Xbox version!” Well, that’s extreme, but, yes, the fandom runs that deep.
Then, all sorts of conversations for Switch 2 come flooding in. iJezabella responded to another comment, saying, “Pretty much confirmed. Still don’t know what it’s doing on Switch 2 though, especially when Rebirth goes there it’s going to melt that thing, it barely runs on a PS5;” And it is a good point. Officially, the Switch 2 has not been announced yet, and yet the doubt regarding this console’s ability to run such a graphically heavy game is beginning. If Rebirth is having a hard time on PS5, wait until we have it on Nintendo’s next big thing-to put it simply, either downgrades for days or cloud streaming. No one knows yet.
Tossed there were some murmurs about vibes for physical on both ends. Emiya boldly said, “Physical version for Xbox and I’ll buy all 3 parts.” Before Heartless_droid was able to respond, “I’m surprised Xbox users don’t know that Xbox hates physical release.” Well… yeah, that has been a stance Microsoft has taken against physical for a while now-don’t get your hopes up, Xboxers, about a physical disc.
And that entirely bored drama about Square Enix and its expectations. User kgfch2waiting proceeded at it with AnimexPlayer, discussing whether it met the sales target or not; AnimexPlayer deemed SE expectations as “stupid and irrealistic,” while kgfch2waiting shot back that it “did sold better many games that released in multiple platforms.” It’s a whole thing in itself: Square Enix appears to have gone weird about sales numbers late, more so since Final Fantasy XVI and Rebirth haven’t hit the crazy heights likely anticipated.
Others are just happy to finally get the next one in their hands. “I’ll buy it (only in the form of a game key card I think)” Zephiros replied to the dialogue, adding with a “do better with next releases. Optimize and compress better.” A well-put but fair critique, mostly seeing with file sizes this big for these games are absolutely monstrous. We’re talking, like, over 100GB for merely one part. Storage-wise, that’s going to be a nightmare.
Following are weirdos that just pop in, like Sekai no Hakaisha Productions too: “Final Fantasy was never good.” Okie dokie there, buddy. It was followed with TKUltra002 jokingly saying: “Now you can be a disappointed FF7 fan for 40 Dolans instead of 80 Dolans! Progress boys!!!” It was funny, but, I think on some level, that’s true: games are expensive, and if this is making it easier for more people to play, then that’s a good thing.
The responses were more or less balanced: some are excited; others skeptical, whereas others are still wondering why it has been so long. Kefkabcn added, “We are in 2020?” which… view.
Well, at least it’s on the way. Final Fantasy VII Remake will finally see wider multi-platform availability-already some good news for gamers that are not PlayStation owners. Now the waiting must begin-waiting… and more waiting until January 2026. Hopefully, we’ll hear something on Rebirth and the third part of the trilogy by then. Keep your fingers crossed.
So mark your calendars and set those alarms, whatever it takes. January 22, 2026 is the day. Whether it is worth the wait remains to be seen, but one can at least say finally. Maybe Switch 2 surprises us all and actually runs the game without melting down in its plastic splendor in the meantime. A girl can dream, can’t she?
