The Pickaxe to Reload is finally here in Fortnite by Epic!!! And everybody from Nashville to Alaska is having a meltdown over it. I mean all the cosmetic bags are passing each other, and the biggest question on Twitter is… Have you gotten your pickaxe yet?

The pickaxe is available through a limited-time challenge, and there are two possible ways you could obtain it. From the time you complete the challenge, either you must win 2 matches in Reload mode OR level-up 10 times. That’s it; sounds easy enough, right? Well, some are saying not so much for some.

Several players have alleged not to receive their pickaxe even though they’ve fulfilled the requirements for it. One player named Pierre tweeted: “Won a game once and didn’t get it,” so that has to be painful. Meanwhile, there are some others that are just going on about how they got it on day one with no effort at all. “Yeah just by getting 10 lvls,” said one player, acting as if it was the easiest thing ever.

Likewise, the responses are as customarily different as the conditions involved in getting the Pickaxe, with some loving it and referring to it as “so clean” and “one of the best pickaxe every!!,” while others well, let’s just say they are not impressed. One player straight up: “Shit picker,” that was hard. Another said, “I didn’t know what this was when I got it but it’s tragically bad, no one is using this 😭,” which is quite entertaining, to say the least.

Even more interesting is how many people already have it but admit they are most likely never going to use it. “Yep but I’ll probably never use it lol,” said Ryan while QueenEmiTV tweeted, “I did already get it, and I can’t wait to never use it! 😁” Never seen a more typical situation for a Fortnite player – we work hard to grind for cosmetics that we know will never be worth it for us. But hey, FOMO is real!

Chaos over how to actually get the pickaxe is also reigning down in the replies. Loads of people have been dropping the dreaded, “How to get?” while others have had to repeat themselves over and again with the requirements. The thread almost became a small support group, with players holding each other’s hands through working out the mechanics. Basically, “Earn 10 levels or win 2 games in reload” is probably the most repeated phrase of this entire thread.

Wait, what were we saying? Oh yeah, about the pickaxe. This feels quite good, especially the reload animation, which makes it stand out from the other mining tools in the game. The design is quite sleek, too, with some great detailing which quite possibly might work in battle royale. Not that pickaxes need to be functional in any way aside from breaking structures and harvesting materials, but you get me.

What’s funny is how far some players have gotten with this already. “Day 1 💪,” bragged one player, with the other commenting, “I get the First day so ez,” which, okay, we get it, you can actually play this game. Then there are the people, lots of them probably, hitting a wall trying to get those two wins or those ten levels. “Not yet… still hunting for it! 😅,” one player revealed, and that is probably how a lot of people feel at the moment.

By the way, smackdab during this release comes interestingly because Fortnite has been shoving Reload mode down everybody else’s throats. It’s clearly meant to hook more players in to join the particular game mode, and alone with the activity on just this tweet, you say that it’s been rather successful. People out there grinding for those matches trying to get those wins or, well, just playing through regular gameplay until there.

There’s whole the thing of content creators pushing out their creator codes while hyping the pickaxe as well. One proclaimed in reply, “Who else received their pickaxe?? CODE 👉collinchan,” which is classic Fortnite Twitter British. Gotta rake in affiliate money while the hype is hot, I guess.

And that’s what owns the mixed hype – the divergent reactions. Some are calling it “fire 🔥” and “a total game-changer! 💥🪓,” but I remain seemingly underwhelmed and indifferent. That’s the canonical Fortnite cosmetic story – everyone has his or her own taste and no one can agree about what is actually good.

Still, it is another free cosmetic for them to slap on their long list to work towards, whether they ever actually plan on using it or not. Not really too hard to do for the average player, I guess, and it also gives probably the player who hasn’t even entered the mode yet a little push to go give it a go. A brand-new pair of shoes for the lobby never really hurts. At least until after two games, though, when you’ll switch right back to your main pickaxe.

So there you go if you don’t have one yet: win just two Reload matches or earn ten levels; if you do have one now, then welcome to the club of the people who probably won’t ever use it but are kinda glad they have it anyway. It’s just how Fortnite rolls.
