Here’s a brand-new trailer released by Capcom for Resident Evil: Requiem, which will be coming out in February 2026 for PC and consoles. These announcements shook the survival horror community because it gave a brief peek into the new direction that the franchise is towing.

So what the hell are they gonna put on us in Requiem? The few shots in the trailer have atmospheric horror, dark and creepy corridors, and a typical tension we dearly hold unto from the Resident Evil. There goes the diving deep into analyses, and thus far, the reactions have been heavily divided.

Videoneon first slammed the merging of Ethan’s tale into mainline Resident Evil as “ridiculous” and would “require three games’ worth of contrivance” for us to swim there. They also never bothered to spare their comments toward the characters and story and proclaimed “blah C-tier stuff,” now isn’t that nasty?

But there’s quite a disturbingly large crowd excited for it. “Looks so good,” was the response from RZADALSON, to which GreatStoryCorey adjoined with “Looks awesome! Can’t wait to play it.” That is about all the energetically positive vibes that the series has received from the folks who have stuck by Ethan Winters’ story.

Now, there is a little bit of uncertainty about platforms here. The tweet says “PC and consoles,” which led to several conflicting viewpoints. Rennie187 commented on the “interesting choice of words,” prompting speculation about an exclusivity deal or staggered release formats, which then caused Squaleon2 to simply just ask, “Will it be available on PS4?” Actually, that’s a good question because technically by 2026 it is going to be a generation behind.

Visual fidelity remains ever-controversial. Comparisons arose, notably concerning the rumored Switch 2 edition. Slayderfcb was filled with laughter: “Looks like re6 graphics 😭,” while in a Portuguese exchange between JRicardo and PerolasdoXbox, they mocked hair graphics on the Switch 2 with, “Was this made in Paint?” These are sharp words for sure, but Nintendo was never blessed with powerful hardware.

Praises of VR lovers come forth! Multiple players are begging for PSVR2 support. Evo7mc said outright “Wish they’d announce PSVR2 support🙏,” and PlayStay_Sean echoed, “Cannot wait to play this on PSVR2.” Considering how well Resident Evil 7 and Village went in VR, that demand is almost obvious.

The interesting part? No combat has been seen at all yet. “We need some combat to be shown,” AltShiftKill said. “All these trailers with zero combat shown! 🥴🥴🥴” KeybladeHeroV added. As of now, they’ve shown atmosphere and tension, but oh, come on, show us some actual fighting against whatever nightmare fuel Capcom is concocting!

Casting speculations must now commence. Tankahma asked: “Is that Troy Baker?” Which is quite plausible considering his history with the series. Killinggamer is practically begging for classic fanservice: “I NEED to see Leon, PLEASE.” Because, seriously, you can’t have a Resident Evil game without some classic character showing up.

Projection Room account added a nice take on horror games on a big screen”: “Horror games hit different on a big screen! 🎮👻 The atmosphere and tension in RE games are incredible when you’re fully immersed.” Then went on to proclaim that gamers have been upgrading one after another to projector just for the sake of horror titles, which honestly sounds like an amazing way to enjoy this game.

It has been argued if there is anything new shown at all. Lara_XBL claims, “Nothing new about it, it’s literally jump cuts from stuff we already seen like 95%.” Then Allenwatch came with real-world experience of having played the demo at PAX and confirmed it’s first person like the last two games but with optional different camera angles. “Hyping for it after the demo,” he said. That’s promising.

However, the release is still quite some ways off- February 2026-, so definitely many more reveals, deep-lore gameplay, and probably a dozen trailers. What is certain right now though is: The gamers of Resident Evil have always eaten good, and this talk about Requiem is only just starting! Whether you’re for continuing Ethan’s story or doubtful of the way it fits into larger lore, Capcom now has literally everyone’s attention, and now we just gotta wait… And hopefully, they’ll show us some combat soon.
