Square Enix drops a dare inside the war zone of RPGs. Certainly, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will have a North American release on Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on January 22, 2026. Now the best part of the reveal is on one hand Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will be available on three titling platforms, while the other all three titles of the remaking will be available on just about every other platform, ranging from PlayStation 5, Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox, and Switch 2. We mean, people, everybody should be playing it, finally.
What a big news for all those GamePros who had been sitting on the sidelines because they never got to own a PlayStation! The first part of the remake came to PS4 as a timed exclusive back in 2020; the release of Rebirth followed on PS5 earlier this year. But, with Square-Enix going full multi-platform, players are having feelings.
The announcement of the launch of the game from the official Final Fantasy VII account immediately went viral, with replies flooding in from excited and sometimes salty fans. One user, eli, just tosses out a cry emoji and calls it “BEAUTIFUL to witness.” Mood. Another user, Grant, just said, “Yay now I can play part 3 on Switch 2.” A general vibe of those Xbox and Nintendo loyalists who’ve been waiting for this moment for literally years: release-day relief and excitement.
Well, it wouldn’t be gaming Twitter without having some chaos. User Nilynix responded with, “Xbox physical release damnit.” And that’s a fair demand. Many collectors want that box on the shelf. WatsonRPGs echoed that sentiment with “Would have loved to have a physical copy for my Xbox as well.” Still not clear whether physical editions are coming down the pipe, but the digital rollout appears to be locked in.
The whole drama ensues over what this means for Part 3. User ZillaNation4806 speculates, “Sound like when Part 3 is released there will be a trilogy version available to all platform…smart move by Square Enix finally.” And honestly? That makes a ton of sense. Releasing the entire saga everywhere at once could be a massive win for Square Enix, especially after reports that Rebirth’s sales on PS5 didn’t meet expectations.
Twotimesblue enters the thread saying, “We already know they weren’t happy with the sales of Rebirth on PS5 and that they’re adopting a multiplat-focused strategy. They will get many more sales on PC and Switch 2 by going day 1 everywhere.” It’s a business move; simple and straightforward. And a brainy one.
But not everyone is convinced. User Peewee78368 fired back in multiple replies, insisting that “Sony still has a deal in place for all 3…. Part 3 will be Ps only again at launch with pc and other system to follow… That deal was made ALONG TIME AGO FOR ALL 3 TITLES LOL.” So…there’s some confusion. And arguing. Typical gaming Twitter.
Then there’s the technical bit. User Arslan H Malik chimed in on the Switch 2 version: “Oh boy game key card. Which now we have reason to not buy it. Because Nintendo switch 2 game on cartridges is 400mb digital and gamekey cards is 2100mb. Gotta love that your paying for old hardware.” Wait, what was I saying– oh right, file sizes. These games are massive. How they’ll run on Switch 2, especially if it’s less powerful than PS5, is a big question. Then another one from just_games1984 worries, “No way Part 3 hits in 2027 if they have to optimize for all systems now.” Development may get tricky.
Amidst all the speculation and the platform wars, things got very wholesome: daniel_rollins a.k.a. Twotimesblue said, “One of the few games that I will buy a second time on a second platform. Would love to see some cross save support. If CDPR and Ubisoft can do it, so can you @SquareEnix.” That’s a mood. Rebuying a masterpiece just to play it on the go? Count me in.
Jack M gave us the lol, “Lowkey the sole reason i bought ps5 lmao. Who wants one?.” Sorry, dude. Maybe eBay.
So this, in turn, gives a bit of hope that the third and final part of the remake saga could see a simultaneous launch on all platforms. That would be a first for this series and a massive shift from Square Enix’s prior exclusivity deals. It actually lines up with the company’s new stated ambition to be more multiplatform post few financial struggles.
So what does this all mean? Basically, more people than ever will get to experience one of the greatest RPG stories ever told. The whole journey of Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, and the whole crew fighting against Shinra and Sephiroth is going to be put into the lap of many. And, that’s objectively something-good. Get ready with January 2026 already; the wait is going to be Loooong. But, hey, at least we know it’s coming. For everyone.
