The Destiny 2 Renegades announcement was tipped to be stitched up by Bungie on December 2, 2025, and the reactions… were quite unexpected, even the complete opposite of what one would imagine. The tweet shows an exotic ship meant to be had with the pre-order, practically an X-Wing, that some alien vessel fresh out of Star Wars, and one would think those players would be losing their minds with excitement? Instead, the replies are filled with rage and frustration, bug reports of issues present at this very moment in the current game.
About the ship itself. This ship, as Bungie calls it, is the Renegade Leader Exotic Ship. And offensively, it is modeled after an X-Wing. Yet, players are not simply taking Bungie’s word-they’re pointing out the flaws. Zachary Davidson in one reply remarked, “Couldn’t even model the X Wing right. 5 thrusters? It only has 4.” Man, details matter! Another response complains that they did not get the right ship from a promotion but somehow got something called “Crystal Lattice” instead. So there’s confusion and grievance arising from the pre-order incentives already.
But that just scratches the surface. The real core of all player responses lies with the current state of Destiny 2. Many talk about how broken the game feels right now. MiaGoShank ranted, “i shouldnt have to bash my head against shit thats 50+ levels above me for a plus fucking 1,” about Powerleveling. And then everyone chimes in regarding how “dog shit” leveling is and how “buggy and boring” the game is. Some say Crucible is more terrible? That just doesn’t make any sense.
Moving over to matters of money. They’ve started asking if they’ll have to pay for the expansion again if they’ve already got the annual pass. Necho’s question was blunt: “What about the people who bought the Anual pass? Do we have this ship in our inventory already or do we have to pay again?” Legitimate questions, really. Another: “is that on top of the 100 bucks i already spent for this year?” So the price is a definite issue for the community.
It’s negative and keeps coming. And those are brutal. “Horrible, my whole clan gave the game up. Just kill the game already.” “Absolute dogshit”-tagged one of the community managers. Now, Player numbers are being debated too. Someone refers to “40k players on day 1” and declared the game “done.” Whether accurate, that says much about the exasperation felt by the players.
Interestingly, though, a few seem to be excited about the Star Wars collab amidst all the hate. Sith_Creed stated, “I never imagined my 2 fav franchises would colab,” claiming they’re gonna have a blast. But that response was directed at someone trashing Disney Star Wars, so yeah, insanity all around.
The timing is being questioned too. Due to the existing expansion being so broken, people ask why Bungie is already hyping something for December 2025, when there are issues that need to be fixed right now. “So, you’re not going to mention about the new release disaster?” asks one person-nearly sums up every statement.
Then come the gameplay-based complaints, going beyond just leveling. People are asking about new strikes and new PvP maps (which remain unannounced), about some changes to exotic armor that they don’t like, and about how to put on new loot at all, thanks to the bug. Things just can’t get any more chaotic for the Destiny community at the moment.
The madness is though, Bungie has been through these cycles already. Something is announced by them, players get excited about it, and then the content in the meantime gets issues, and it repeats yet again. However, the backlash this time seems more severe. Maybe because the game has existed for a while or maybe because the players are tired of this very pattern.
Going by the tagline “Send shadows into retreat,” the Renegades expansion probably embraces a dark, shadowy aesthetic. And that X-Wing-appearing ship is definitely cool, despite possible issues with the modeling. But on players’ minds at the moment is the current state of the game.
It will be very, very interesting to see how Bungie reacts to the feedback. They’ve got until December 2025 though to get their act together and make Renegades something that players are excited about. Judging by the Twitter response, they’ll have a lot of work ahead of them in gaining the trust of the players. The Destiny community can be very passionate, both negatively and positively. Right now, though, the scales are tilting more towards negative. Let’s hope for a turnaround because when Destiny is good, it’s really good. But if it’s bad…practically all of the replies say it all.
