Alright gamers, strap in because we got some news that’s gonna make some of you scream with joy and others… well, maybe just scream. Borderlands 4 is officially dropping on September 12, bringing back that chaotically co-op looter-shooter action that we so very well know and kinda love?? Or do we? The official PlayStation account had tweeted out the release date, and the replies were a wild mixture of hype, skepticism, and pure chaos. Like, it’s Borderlands; what else did we really expect?
The tweet was simple and short: Borderlands 4 unleashes co-op looter-shooter action on September 12. The hype art followed, seemingly hinting that it could be yet another wild ride on Pandora, or on some new planet; who even knows. But the true story happens to lie in the comments, and oh, these ladies came through big.
Some were very excited. OyaPlayOfficial writes, “September 12 can’t come soon enough,” very much the mood. Lara aka SugarxLara is “sooo excited for this oh my GOD,” and Danny is shouting caps lock, “I CAN’T WAIT!!❤️💕💕!!” That’s the kind of energy we need. Shaga is already thinking of how much fun the squad will have, “Exploration with the squad is going to be nuts!” Gene Gardner is more chill, “Looking forward to this one,” and we like chill.
Then the other half came through. Briggy was basically like: “BL3 was already mid. What makes you think BL4 has the slightest chance of being better? No memorable characters, boring game. Borderlands peaked at BL2 and never hit that ever again. Never got close to that.” OOF. That’s a take that’s gonna sting for Gearbox.” Then, of course, there was Craptain Crunch who replied with: “I got Borderlands 3 for free, and I still feel ripped off somehow.” DAMN.
And there are the performance issues. Capi Mad Juan was like, “it runs like uter garbage, dont buy it guys,” and if that’s true… big “yikes” for a looter shooter that requires smooth gameplay. This was then followed by jeynon87 saying, “Do we know if it sucks yet?” Basically what everyone’s wondering after the last one.
More price concerns: “would love to jump in day 1 but that price is way too high,” claims merlwybwife, only to be clappedback by FUTknowledge1, “it’s the same price as every triple A game lol,” which is true but also… gamers are broke man! The whole thread in Spanish is all about regional pricing for Latin America, a big problem that PlayStation needs to sort out.
Then, the interruption by off-topic stuff: ManInTheBoat asking for a Legend of Dragoon remaster?? and NextGen GTA Vault talking about modding GTA 5 to get a Vault Hunter onto an Oppressor Mk II, which is … creative, I suppose. And then there’s Jeff Bean, aka sadwinnipegfan, who got roasted for still holding onto his PS4 with comments like “It’s 2025 bro,” and “Get a ps5 bum,” which is just mean but kinda funny.
Derek Brooks asked about preload, with a reply from Wolf23169 straight away: “Hopefully tomorrow,” so maybe we’ll get that info soon. And Inderdip Lohtia is already worried about the arrival of a Duke Nukem Forever pinball machine, which is a deep-cut reference only the true fans will get.
So what is the verdict? Borderlands 4 was announced, co-op chaos will drop on September 12, but the community remains split half-way down. Some are hyped beyond belief and ready to grind for loot with their friends. Others are deeply skeptical, remembering the shortcomings of Borderlands 3 and wondering if this one will really be able to seize those Borderlands 2 days. And then there are performance and price concerns looming above every new release.
I’m cautiously optimistic. I loved Borderlands 2 and I thought Borderlands 3 was okay but not great, and I hope they’ve learned from their mistakes. The co-op focus is really one thing that’s always a winner for me since just causing mayhem with friends is just the best thing ever. But I’ll probably wait till after the reviews before dropping full price on this. Unless the preload drops tomorrow, then I might cave.
Either way, set out a big circle on your calendars for September 12. Borderlands 4 is gonna be loud, whether you are crazy excited or heavily skeptical. Lets hope the noise will be for the greater good and not some game with a ridiculous lag day. What was I saying? Loot and shoot. God, either I can’t wait, or it is something I could really do without at the moment.
