Just after the release of Voyagers, the Hello Games studio apparently hurried to patch in a 6.04 Hotfix across all ports, adding some fixes and enhancements players wanted so desperately to have there. Then again, all consoles having been hit by the update except the Nintendo Switch has left the console wondering again as to when it will be given the option to join the party.
Working against the current player pressure that started with the release of Voyagers, this patch seeks to fix a myriad of issues ranging from problems in ship control to graphics problems that have been driving players nuts. And yes, the community has been painfully vocal on what should really be fixed.
So what does this update really come with? Patch notes do discuss things like stability improvements, fixes for different sorts of crashes, and also gameplay mechanic tweaks, but a reading through the flood of replies beneath the tweet announcing the update paints an even harsher and realistic picture of what the players are really facing out there in the cosmos.
One of the worst offenders seems to have been the Corvette ships. Players are reporting all sorts of strange behavior emanating from these massive vessels. Carmelo300 detailed two issues: “While piloting the corvette, I press to leave the command station while maintaining the current trajectory as I head for a space station, the ship bugs and penetrates the space station without docking.
How would the weapons perform? “When I fire the photon cannon in the corvette and I have two cannons, namely a photon cannon and a phaser beam. The phaser beam also fires the same projectiles as the photon cannon. Conversely, if I use the phaser beam, the photon cannon also fires beams.” So essentially all your weapons just decided to become the same thing. That definitely is not doing it for space combat.
But wait, there’s more! Several players mentioned their Corvettes just spinning out of control when using boosters for more than a few seconds. Dr. Bill Cortner asked directly: “Does this fix the issue where the ship begins spinning whenever booster is used more than 3 seconds?” That would make navigating through asteroid fields pretty much impossible.
Then there’s the whole Nintendo Switch situation. Multiple players called out the “all platforms” claim in the announcement, with ChillTokyo_ bluntly stating: “all but Nintendo platforms.” And they’re not wrong – Switch players are still waiting for the Voyagers update that other platforms got weeks ago.
The frustration is real among Switch users. DumbNStupid22 pleaded: “Sean, what is taking so long for Switch release? Is it happening or not? The wait is killing us.” And RBCoachMarcus added: “all platforms but not switch/switch 2 i just wanna play my main save on the go bro.” It’s tough seeing everyone else enjoying new content while you’re stuck waiting.
Expedition rewards seem to be another pain point. gonzgaming69 simply asked: “Still no fix for the expedition rewards bug?” while asylumyx reported: “Does anyone else have the problem that you can’t finish the old expedition and the new one can’t start because of that? (Xbox Series).” That’s particularly rough since expeditions are time-limited events.
Graphical issues are also popping up across platforms. LVL58Designs asked: “Did you fix the issue with the blinding white interiors of corvettes? I haven’t been on in a few days.” Meanwhile, NoctaliD reported: “Anti aliasing is still broken on PS5 Pro… 😭” These visual problems can really kill the immersion in a game that’s all about exploring beautiful alien worlds.
Multiplayer isn’t immune either. compguru910 noted: “What about friends not being able to see your ship while in a party? It’s pretty consistent with my friend and I now.” When you’re trying to explore the universe with buddies, not being able to see each other’s ships kind of defeats the purpose.
Some players have found creative workarounds for their issues. iceaxehikes shared: “I was able to resolve the Corvette spinning out of control issue on my own. It was all the stuff I put inside that didn’t come from the Corvette menu. I built a whole new ship using Genuine GM parts and no spins at all.” Sometimes the community has to take matters into their own hands.
The patch, while a step in the right direction, is not the last one from Hello Games. Players are hoping for more comprehensive fixes sooner rather than later from Hello Games, between the Corvette issues, expedition bugs, and the ongoing Switch delay.
What is interesting is how responsive the development team has been to community feedback over the years. No Man’s Sky has made one of the most incredible comebacks in the history of gaming, metamorphosing from a controversial launch into one of the best-supported live service games out there. They’ve listened to players consistently and delivered gargantuan free updates.
That said, the Switch mess is becoming a sore spot. With rumors of a Switch 2 being talked about, players are wondering if the current Switch will ever be equal to the other version. YRDNonX joked: “Lol the poor, pitiful Nintendo players. At this point, the Corvette expedition will have ended by the time Switch even sees Voyagers.” Ouch.
For now, players on other platforms can enjoy the latest fixes while Switch users continue waiting. The No Man’s Sky community remains one of the most dedicated gaming communities, but even patient explorers have their limits. Here’s hoping Hello Games can get everyone on the same page soon because nobody wants to be left behind when there’s a whole universe to explore.
The hotfix is live now on everything except Switch. If you’ve been holding off on playing because of any of these issues, now might be a good time to jump back in and see what’s been fixed. And if you’re on Switch… well, maybe try not to look at what everyone else is playing for a while.
