Now, isn’t it a neat way to set campus gossip aflutter if Square Enix makes an announcement like that? They were selling Materia Sphere Glass as exclusive merchandise at FINAL FANTASY VII’s Seventh Heaven Experience pop-up event at Boba Bear in Koreatown, Los Angeles. These are drink glasses basically formed after the famous Materia orbs from the game, for four flavors debuting on September 22, 2025. More details soon, and the netizens are already losing it!
The first tweet from Square Enix and FFVII Ever Crisis flaunted the glass. It looked pretty cool-the glass is spherical and exactly looks like the item in-game. Probably a nightmare to drink out of without spilling it all over yourself, but who cares; it’s Materia. The replies range from hype, jealousy, or pure rage by gamers who couldn’t be in LA area.
Now, the crowd started begging for global availability. UKDevil24 chimed, “Please make this a global thing to buy ❤️👍🏻.” They’re not alone-DizzieDee from the UK said, “Ahhh I wish this was in the UK tooooo,” which is truly the struggle. PhenomStrife asked: “Eu pre orders?” which is somewhat hilarious: autocorrect or excitement? Shanoobis weighed in on behalf of Aussieland, saying, “This is pretty cool, wish some of these events would hit Australia.” So true: Square Enix are going to tease us with some really cool stuff, and half the fandom is going to be like “Cool, but what about the rest of us?”
And the LA hate is really rolling now. crypticdruid said, “Yeah ain’t nobody tracking to the hellhole that’s LA for that.” Oof, harsh but definitely true for some. East Coasters are feeling left out, too, Jakejames Lugo said, “Not gonna lie, that is pretty cool. I wish you guys could do something with this for us out here on the East Coast.” Wrylikevortiger bluntly stated, “Northeast/East doesn’t exist..” which, is basically how it feels when exclusives like this pop up.
But not all are complaining. HiddenLeafMike got hyped: “How cool!! And it’s spherical! Been loving the 2nd anniversary event so far I love neat little tie-ins like this. Awesome that they will do pre orders for shipping.” Wait. Pre-orders for shipping? That’s a total game-changer if true, because that would mean those of us outside LA could probably snag one without forking over a kidney for a plane ticket. Schizma was all, “Just put it in the shop, you’ll earn more from global sales than limited LA event.” Square Enix, are you listening? Cash in on that global demand, my dudes.
Some responses turned outright hilarious, especially with Suzie Yeung (I think she’s a voice actor) clowning about. Somebody replied to her, “Barret: aw she’s going to steal our materia,” peak FFVII humor right there. Then Vilis_Farthuk followed up with “Noooope hides Materia drink behind back.” What is one to make of that? Did she threaten to snatch it? Anarchy.
There’s some insider talk: AVALANCHE_VII and Sreliata were basically talking about hitting this thing up, with AVALANCHE_VII saying that they couldn’t nail the reservation but were planning on going on either the 22nd or 23rd of September and would message with prices, while Sreliata was all: “Ohh!! You live close to where the event is? That’s so amazing!!” Seeing that fanbase reciprocate is super good, even for semi-priced drinks.
But, real talk: this is so Square Enix. They love the hot limited-location stuff that drives FOMO through the roof. Remember how they did Kingdom Hearts stuff that was exclusive to certain spots? Or, on the flipside, tailored the NieR concerts? They know what they’re doing, and dammit, we keep getting played. Being Square Enix, I bet the Materia glasses are gonna be money too-AVALANCHE_VII guessed, “hope it isn’t more than $20,” but knowing Square Enix, it’s probably gonna be twice that. And for a glass? Well, I shouldn’t remind you how much we love collectibles.
It’s just about time for a tie-in with Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis; that’s one ever-updated gameplay since release, and this merch should be stretched as part of the celebrations for its second anniversary. Really, who doesn’t want to put a drink in a Materia orb? That’s like the closest thing to actually casting Magic Materia in real life unless somebody figures out how to summon Ifrit. Please don’t.
Overall, it’s a neat, little, community-aware promo. Some are hyped. Some are pissed off. Some are just making jokes. Classic gamer reactions. If they pull this off and include shipping or extended it, they could make great money. But until then, those in LA can start marking calendars for September 22nd. Everybody else is going to have to live through Instagram posts, or eBay listings after the pop-up; who knows, could be the start of more pop-ups elsewhere. A gamer can wish. Anyway, keep your eyes peeled for some clues; Square Enix will surely announce more eventually. For now, stay hydrated-with the exception of maybe soaking in Materia-infused beverages if you’re in Koreatown soon.
