This is a very interesting situation occurring in Astro Bot since PlayStation just tossed in a very happy one-year anniversary tweet for Astro Bot, with the reply section being quite a spectacle. The game dropped a year ago, and the audiences are still mad about it-this is strange since the general populace forgets a game after roughly a month.
Anyway, in brief: Astro Bot is a XYZ platformer published by Team Asobi on PS5, which nearly everyone who got to play considers to be one of the best games of 2024. Well, it really did scoop a ton of awards and all. Now, the anniversary tweet from PlayStation has gamers in the comments clamoring for everything from a sequel, a discount, VR support, and even PC ports-the complete madness-but in a nice way.
The first comment that made me laugh was, “@PlayStation give us lbp back,” probably referring to LittleBigPlanet?? Pretty ironic to be asking it on an Astro Bot anniversary post, but hey, gamers want what they want. Topping it off, Sakkat_VR says, “he existed in PSVR first before on PS5 so he’s way older than 1 year.” Which is an elegant point; Astro Bot did secretly have a prequel in VR before this game, so that character is kind of older; however, that does not take away from the fact that this game is officially one year old. Detail, detail.
The best part is seeing how much love this game is still getting. For example, _GPReS_ responded, “Happy birthday! The game is so amazing! It had been replayed a dozen times during the year; it’s fun and never boring.” They also thanked for the Ukrainian localization, which is just amazing, meaning that more people can now experience the game in their language. They also tagged Team Asobi in yet another response, “Congratulations on release of #AstroBot and especially HUGE thanks for adding #Ukrainian localization! It means a lot to us!” It’s great to see developers support alternative languages.
Then everybody says more content. KadofanHypnos said, “This game needs a dlc So much potential,” and BYosh27 begged, “More new levels or a sequel please I beg you.” VideoGameHubOG even went and posted a gif that read, “We need βAstro Bot 2β ππ₯.” So yeah, calls for a sequel are very real. They loved the game so much that they want more, a good thing really.
But yes, people want a discount. BigMazi_300 shared, “Waiting for it to hit $30,” maybe waiting for a sale. “If it was Xbox, we would play with our subscription,” commented _ersin8, which is a valid point. Games are pricey. Close enough; according to most players, this game truly deserves the standard asking price. NeedFordaspeed1 added: “We need a sale at some point,” so maybe PlayStation will drop a discount for the anniversary? That’s a nice move, I say.
Then has to come the VR gang. Fractalus9 said, “Congrats! That’s a good opportunity to release #PSVR2 patch so I can buy it,” and ChrizTaylor just posted, “#PSVR2 when?” with a gif attached. Nearly everyone wants this on PSVR2, after all-the original Astro Bot was on PSVR. Maybe Team Asobi is working on that?? Could not say.
Others want PC ports, like QueroGames, who simply wrote “Pc version please.” With PlayStation promoting very many games over to PC lately, it could very well happen. But for now, it’s bound to the exclusivity of PS5.
Then the curveballs come: Breadma734645 asks, “Don’t suppose y’all will make all the bots costumes available? It’s odd only having a small handful when so many exist.” Meanwhile, MegaManMain went with “Nice πβ¦. When is mega man volnutt coming.” So, yeah, there’s a desire for more customization and maybe some crossovers?? That would be fun.
Overall, it’s very positive vibes: uiwuagwu91 says, “Happy anniversary, Astro Bot! I started playing this this past June and boy have I been wowed by this game. I’m playing it again for its anniversary. An absolutely fun game from beginning to end.” Not_it_Kornetti gushes over Team Asobi: “The fact that Team Asobi that back then made such classics like ape escape or patapon to still making such amazing games is so fascinating. One of the best studios in the entire world.” Here’s to Team Asobi!
It’s just a wonderful display of a game that’s not the usual most recent AAA and having such a faithful fanbase for it. Astro Bot is one of those games that just spreads joy, and the players want more of it. Be it a sequel, DLC, VR support, or just a sale, the community is loud and clear. Team Asobi and PlayStation really have a hit on their hands, and gamers are not letting them forget it. Here’s to another year of Astro Bot and hopefully yet another one. Maybe we’ll get an announcement soon?? Fingers crossed.
