The No Man’s Sky community knew the thing-the very thing that some of the best people do with an inferior game building scheme. This time, they did a detailed rendering of Boba Fett’s iconic ship-slave 1. And, as usual, the internet had much to say about that. Mostly about the name. But we will get there.
The original Dexerto tweet had this super ship being built by Reddit user Itachii47, with a small clip running from various angles. The ship looked very accurate, with that very distinctive vertical orientation and all. It’s one of those builds-one of those rare few-that make you just stop for a moment-there’s NO WAY you can DO that in No Man’s Sky, right? Since when?
The question came up in almost every comment. Jorge, just straight to the point, asked Grok, “is this game good yet” Which, well, is a fair question considering the…rocky launch. Grok itself, however, answered far more informatively, explaining in detail just how much that game has improved. He spoke of the recent Voyagers update (that is 6.0 to anyone who bothered to keep track) that allowed very deep ship customization. The very thing that enabled the creation of this build. They spoke of praise in the reviews for exploration and building, and some criticisms for combat and tutorial. So basically, if you fancy an open world space sim, take another look at it.
Back to the ship. The very first, and I do mean first, reactions from literally dozens of comments immediately centered around one thing: the name. The original tweet called it “Boba Fett’s ship.” Huge mistake. Absolutely huge.
The comments quickly erupted in a chorus of correction. Killine said, “Its name is Slave 1. Whoever names it other names, get out.” The tone was set early. 0255_AM just made it very direct: “Slave I Don’t you fuckin Disney™ this perfection.” It was stated over and over again. “Say the ship’s name coward. Slave 1,” said Sean. “Call it Slave 1 cowards,” said Bizz. “Slave 1. Remember it,” commanded Crazy Uncle Kevin. You get the drift. There’s this fun little bit of fandom that really disregards the name “Slave I.”
But amidst the unrest caused by the name discussion came genuine awe. Chad_EH remarked about his attempt from last week, posting a link to his build, which subsequently prompted an extremely intriguing technical question from Chuuni🌛✨🛸👽, “wait it can actually fly properly despite landing like that? or are you doing something funny”. That is an excellent inquiry indeed concerning No Man’s Sky physics! How can that vertical design work in flight, the building system must be extremely flexible?
Other comments were hype mixed with silliness. “I want that,” said Akapanda_Studio. “That’s sick. Makes me almost want to play it again,” said BBM. Then DakoGuyver VTuber started spitting out some lyrics: “My backpack’s got jets. Well I’m Boba the Fett. Well I bounty hunt for Jabba Hutt to finance my ‘Vette.” Truly a scholar.
Naturally, there were detractors as well. nikiburstr8x said, “nice – still wont play this :P.” Cool story, bro. Then PriceTaerl789 asked the age-old question that would ignite World War III in the Discord server: “Is this better than Star Citizen?”
So the really big takeaway from this entire debacle is how far No Man’s Sky has come. From being the flashpoint of broken promises to now being able to be used by builders for incredible renditions of pop culture icons. The Voyagers update seems to have really opened the floodgates for this sort of creation. And the community reaction shows players have taken note and are very much invested, whether in arguing canonical name of ships or simply sharing their builds.
That is a happy moment for Hello Games and the players that have stuck with it. Who would’ve thought that a spaceship-building game would be a litmus test for Star Wars purism? The internet is weird, but it’s wonderful. So, if you got No Man’s Sky sitting in your library, maybe it’s time to launch it and see what you can build. Just maybe don’t call it “Boba Fett’s ship” once you’re done with it.
