Epic Games is back with surveys, this time on a list of items that have been petitioned for, literally, over the years. So, a survey has just leaked, as shared by HYPEX, where Fortnite is testing ways to allow previously unclaimed Battle Pass cosmetics to be claimed by subscribers to Fortnite Crew. Again, if you have read that already, it is all right. And those skins and items that you either missed out on because life caught up with you or you never bothered to grind might now be back in your hands!

For The Fortnite community, this piece of news is huge, as it has clamored for an earn/sway system for old Battle Pass cosmetics since almost the inception of the game. The Battle Pass has never been like something you just hop onto and get after the limited time expires; after the season ends, it’s done and gone! The premium feeling is just strange, bearing in mind you were barely five tiers from that ultra-cool skin you wanted to have so badly, but just ran out of time to get there.

Apparently, such a system would begin as a perk for Fortnite Crew, which presently costs $11.99 per month. Along with holding perks, including the current Battle Pass, 1,000 V-Bucks, and Crew Pack skins, the most obvious thing to consider will be adding old cosmetics to boost the subscription’s worth exponentially and probably earn a million more subscribers. This explains the much-subdued excitement bouncing across the comments on HYPEX’s tweet.

Do not miss all of these reactions: “I can finally get them 🥹 if they add this” versus “I could finally get Korra 😭.” There’s been much talk about certain items like Omega lights; they’re, like, basically a relic from Chapter 1, Season 4. Another contributor added: “I want the chance to complete the Ch4S1 Battle Pass so bad. I need ALL the Doom Slayer cosmetics I couldn’t get.” So the demand is there, not for like fresh new market. People want items from all chapters.

Others, however, differed in opinion. One user commented, “Anything but bring back old bps. Can epic don’t u like money?” (Which is a fair comment.) Part of the appeal of Battle Pass items has always been temporary exclusivity. If Epic starts letting anyone get their hands on old stuff, how do those players who got exclusive stuff back then feel about the devaluing of it? It has been the endless debate for years, and now it is up to Epic to choose between profits and player satisfaction.

Moreover, zooming back in, how would this even function? Would it merely be unlocking items you already started but never finished? Or could you just unlock the entire Battle Passes of old? The survey has no information about it, but players are hoping it’s the latter. One said, “hopefully it’s all the way from ch1 too i still need to finish my s7 pass.” While the other one said, “gods let me get ch2 s5 skins and ill throw my money away.” As for the hype, well, that’s real.

Then there are the stories of these so-close but-so-far misses. One player recounts, “I messed up on the Hatsune Miku one because I was dumb and thought the pass would always be there to continue unlocking stuff. Then I missed its return to the store and didn’t know until a day after it left.” That is exactly the kind of situation this new perk could resolve. The big thing is the pace of life sometimes gets in the way, and the missed opportunity is something they actually wanted badly.

Being fair, all these are still in the survey stage, which means nothing is yet. Usually, Epic Games would put up a proposed idea and test it with the players before fully committing, so they might just be testing if people are interested.” But considering how much response the whole thing got, they should be stupid not to put it in.” The new feature will also make the Crew subscription 10 TIMES more appealing and bring a lot of new subscribers on board.

Also, let’s be honest, these days, Fortnite mostly makes its money from item shop sales and collaborations. To wit, “What money are they making from skins like Spiderman, Darth Vader, and Mando? I’ll give you a clue, it’s less than $1.” Hence, it would be a far better idea to fill the Crew pack with good value than rely on Panic Battle Pass Sales.

On the other hand, from the technical standpoint, how did they do it? Would it have been a rotating selection of old items? Or would subscribers have had access to a whole catalog? And what about the players who never bought the original Battle Pass? Would they have to pay extra, or is it included? So many questions, and there are no answers yet. But the fact that Epic’s even considering it is a big deal.

Meanwhile, players are already dreaming about potential retrieves-from-Black-Knight, Ghost Meowscles, and Korra. If this one comes through, this might just be the end for Battle Pass as we know it. No more stressing about getting through every tier within the season: Just subscribe to Crew, down time is yours. This would be huge for casual players who otherwise don’t really have an hour to grind every day.

So yes, stay tuned for this one. If Epic pushes through, it might go down as the biggest monetization update to the Fortnite game in the past few years. It will also probably be the grand excitement for all players who have been waiting for years to complete their collections. Just keep your expectations in check until it becomes an official announcement. Epic has yet to disappoint on teasing things that never hit the lime. But somehow, this one feels different, you know? The demand is just too loud to bury.
