With the cryptic hint from Magnus Jansén about the forthcoming Survivors mode, many theories have erupted among the players. Jansén revealed via tweet, “there’s a clue in the name,” sending the community into a frenzy trying to figure out what this entails for the game’s future. So, what could Survivors actually be? Dive into the madness!

First of all, the name itself. Survivors, plural, which has messed many into believing that this would be a team or coop-based mode. One player, Nathan Rorke, japed, “Team based survival mode based on the name being plural,” and in many ways, he makes a lot of sense. The Division has always been about squad play, so it probably would emphasize teamwork far more in this new mode. Maybe it’s just a reimagining of that beloved Survival mode from the first game that many players have been actively begging for. One even said PBRJL, “If survival comes back I’ll come back!!!!” So, the demand is there.

Some would disagree. The Division community has gone through a lot, and some players aren’t really happy with what things are right now. Tyler Evo gave a stream of replies filled with outbursts, talking about the bugs; horrible servers; two-ways-full PVP with hackers and lag-switchers; he predicted the new content will bring “more broken rubbish” and “absolutely useless exotics.” Eeesh! Sharp words, but they reflect the frustration of some players over the past few years in dealing with such issues.

Other theories say that this is just a battle royale. H4RDFOX suggested, “BR version of the blizzard,” which is quite an interesting take. With BR modes still being the in thing, it would actually not be surprising to see Ubisoft wanting to cash in on that trend. But really, would it fit in with The Division? Maybe yes, maybe no. The Division has always been more about tactical combat and looting than last-man-standing chaos; so, BR might feel out of place to them.
