PlayStation is now 30 years old. Thirty whole years to celebrate gaming history, and no one else but The Insomniac was to be given credit for throwing this party. The studio that made weapons and limbs that count among some of the biggest PlayStation-related hits, including Spider-Man and Ratchet & Clank, really went all out. And it looks insane.

Insomniac shared many photos from the in-house celebration, precisely the type of event worthy of a game dev soirée. There were games set up all over, prizes to be won, and, of course, snacks because how do you even party without celebrating with snacks? More intrigue was added with “special guests” reportedly “popping in from dimensions afar.” That’s got to be a clue of some kind, maybe the Marvel characters showed up? Can you envision Spider-Man swinging in through their office? That would be so crazy.

The almost euphoric release of the tweet saw every imaginable emoji flooding the tweet-controllers, trophies, candy, and even a wrench, which is definitely a nod toward Ratchet & Clank. They shared a link to more photos from before the party actually started, and it looked like a very heavily decorated space. Balloons, maybe PlayStation cakes or something along those lines. Could only envy that kind of occasion if you worked there.

The response from players was all over the place, and that’s a good thing in this case. A lot of people were shouting happy anniversaries, which is lovely. But since the Internet always has its voice, there were many demands and questions regarding future games. Like, somebody outright said, “We want Marvel’s Wolverine,” cry-face emoji included, which is honestly mood. Everyone is thirsty for details on that game; a party sounds the perfect time for teasing it, but nah, they played it cool.

Another person even asked if what was in one of the pictures was a memory card cookie?? If so, genius party snack idea. Remember those classic PS1 memory cards? To make cookies that looked like them is such a deep cut of nostalgia, and I totally support it. Someone else was begging for 30th-anniversary socks and tumblers; like, same?? Here, merch ideas are just overflowing.

Then this random guy asked about Xbox Game Pass, which… read the room, my dude. This is a PlayStation party. But yeah, you know how the internet is. Another reply wanted a Stormland port to PSVR2, which is actually a pretty solid idea considering Insomniac worked on that game; of course, a bunch of countdown accounts for Spider-Man and Wolverine were chiming in, and that was quite fun to see.

With all those requests for games, the tone was positive and celebratory. Some people showed love for PlayStation, calling it their childhood, claiming it as the best console. One person actually called Insomniac “one of the best studios in the game,” which is fact. They’ve been with PlayStation for so long—from Spyro to Resistance to now Marvel; it is a legit partnership.

It is wild for twenty-plus years of PlayStation celebrations. Gamers, by now, are relatively older, who weren’t even born when the very first PlayStation was released. And Insomniac has seen most of the highs and lows of that period. They have the ability to put together games that just scream fun, pure joy, and this party just seems like an extension of that—everything is about more than just the products. It’s about the people that make these products and the communities that get to play them.

Making the celebration super-family-friendly is also pretty cool! Game devs are not about punching a clock; they’re all about living a lifestyle, and dropping the fam into big life moments says a lot about how healthy this culture is. And having kids run all over a party filled with video games and candy? That is precisely how I imagined heaven.

So yep, happy 30th to PlayStation. And hats off to Insomniac for the kickoff to what looks like a party that will be hard to forget. Here’s to thirty more years of crazy games, crazy parties, and hopefully some Wolverine news soon. Please?
