Has Activision come forth with newthings to get you to preorder Call of Duty Black Ops 7? Well, maybe new is not the right word here, as the weapons camo is being used in Black Ops 6 and Warzone at this very moment. Yes, you did read that correctly. Cough up the money for the next title and, in return, they will pass a cosmetic for that game to the one you have now. Pick this up for free instantly upon a digital preorder of Black Ops 7: The Guild Override Weapon camo.
So what exactly is this? Really, it is a consolation prize for anyone still grinding BO6 or dropping into Warzone matches in between picking up that next title. It definitely looks slick from the promo image-and thus must have been an amazing design put onto your guns in the killcam; pretty technical and guild-inspired, to say the least. Now that is pretty clever. Present something to the player that they can visibly appreciate now, and not offer merely a promise for some day in the distant provided future.
And of course, the community had many things to say about it. The reactions to the announcement of this were, predictably, split, like any other Call of Duty announcement. Some of them really loved it. VegasInferno just stated: “Man that camo is AMAZING 🔥”. Definitely cosmetic collectors’ hype.”
Others, however, seem to be viewing this as a last-ditch effort by Activision. guy_mdz replied, “They’re so desperate bro.” and diego_zeigler added, “Desperation setting in.” The Call of Duty franchise hasn’t had the nicest of reviews lately, especially with the recent confirmation that weapon carry-forward will not be happening from Black Ops 6 to Black Ops 7. That was a pretty big letdown to a lot of players who have invested so much time in unlocking their camos and attachments.
Let’s make this preorder offer slightly ironic. You get a camo for the current one when you buy the next one, yet you won’t actually be able to take your current progress with you. KillerMantis00 said, “Pre-order now to unlock this camo for BO6 and Warzone.” Unable to use that camo for BO7. That’s a pretty accurate statement that almost sheds some light on the weird spot Activision is currently in.”
More of a serious kind than talked of one. “I preordered BO7 a few weeks ago and I don’t see the camo anywhere.” This is in itself either a delay or a buggy distribution system. The second user said, “Ok but here’s a better question why is it not showing up in our camo list in steam?”. So maybe it has to do with the PC platform after all.
The debate then got a little bigger, getting off on tangents dealing with other usual CoD gripes. The SBMM debate was rather fiery again; “Sbmm needs to go or toned down, I don’t need to feel like playing ranked championship finals every day in multiplayer !!! Its exhausting. Let sbmm be for ranked players only!” stated Usman Ali. This is one of the most common gripes that pop up halfway through every year from a pretty big portion of the player base.
Here are some voices coming completely outside of the game. There were some just saying, “CoD is dead,” or “Don’t care still not buying this years CoD.” The entire franchise has been in the loop for two decades, and fatigue is real for some. Some even say, “they are getting Battlefield 6 instead” proving competition is always waiting in the wings.
But hey, one has to remember those very eager ones. Few were awaiting the other preorder bonuses, and fadedlens replied to said haters with, “Stay mad we pockets up easy bo7.” Hence, as usual, fractured a lot among the community.
What does all boil down to? Obviously, Activision has to justify early purchases for Black Ops 7. In this era of increasing skepticism among gamers about preorders, it was always best to give players something of present value and not vague promises, but all happening on the backdrop of player frustration over some game mechanics and the recent carry-forward news.
Will it work? Time will tell. As for the camo, it looks great and is just a bonus for the present game for players that have decided that they are buying Black Ops 7 anyway. For everyone else, the bonus may be wishy-washy in cementing their decision. One thing for sure is that the Call of Duty community has never shied away from saying its piece, and this announcement had almost everybody talking in no time, which can mean both good and bad. So, the road to Black Ops 7 is going to be fun, indeed.
