The new camo in Call of Duty actually changes colors whenever you shoot. So it is not just some static skin, but one which really reacts to your shooting! Isn’t that so cool? The Guild Override Camo is available immediately for those who pre-order Black Ops 7 via digital means. The best part? It can be used on Black Ops 6 and Warzone from September 4–basically next week!

In any case, reactions to a typical Call of Duty announcement tend to be mixed; some are excited, some pissed off, and sometimes some are clueless. This is pretty rough because Zyrox says the game gave them a redownload of BO6 post-update. Then again, Tiago Magalhães says, “Nerf aim assist” just because… well, it is always the case.

Widow_Maker-199 points out the huge bummer: this camo is probably WIP for Black Ops 7 due to engine changes or something like that. So you get this awesome dynamic camo for the current game; however, it might be useless in the new one…classic COD move.

Then the usual pre-order bafflement starts with SIN Kinosin! asking when it will appear in their account, since they pre-ordered through Game Pass, and Cody Beckstrom asking if those who pre-ordered a week ago will automatically get it. So, Activision, can we get some clarity?

That isn’t every single big selling point. Riggers_1997 says plainly they are not going to be buying a “copy and pasta game for 70 quid.” And DeadSpacedOut says, “cool, but I still ain’t pre-ordering bro. lower that sbmm and then we’ll talk.” SBMM strikes again! Always the matchmaking.

And then there are the guys who compare it to Fortnite. Alex says, “Shit been in fortnite for years,” which, yeah, reactive cosmetics aren’t new, but it’s new for the COD, I guess? And GAYLORD BALACLAVA’s response is drenched in sarcasm: “WOWOW SOOO AWESOMMEEE CANT WAITT TO SPEND 80 DOLLARS ON AN AWESOME CAMO…” because we get it. It’s expensive.

Next up are players more concerned with gameplay issues. Moon Mission rants about bad teammates and bad spawns and says he is quitting games and reporting players for not helping. That is a whole vibe. Then someone else says, “This Fortnite shit is super gay,” um, not cool, but also not surprising from whom it came.

A little positivity here: Thomas & Friends says, “awesome like the camo.” So there is that. And Cobho is negotiating: “we will preorder if you do zombies carryforward.” Like, make it happen, Treyarch.

It sure is interesting how just a camo reveal can garner so many divergent opinions. Some players are all about the cosmetics; some are just trying to see functional gameplay; and some are impatiently waiting for a beta or demo to see if the game is even worth it. Another Alex asks, “How about an mp beta or campaign demo to show me that this game isn’t dogwater?” It’s a fair point instead of pre-ordering without knowing what you’re getting.

Then some random dude says this made him want to pre-order Train Sim World 6. Like, what? That came out of nowhere. But that’s Twitter for you.

So it is a nice looking camo. It changes whenever you shoot, which is cool. A camo can’t change spawns; it can’t nerf aim assist; it can’t stop cheating. Actually, one reply gets cut off mid-sentence: “But can’t do anything about cheaters or update the anticheat more than 2x a year but cool camos and skins that will cost you 30 bucks on a” — that really just says it all.

So, yeah, if you’re into cosmetics and are already planning on getting Black Ops 7, then this is a nice little bonus. But if this stuff doesn’t faze you until the game is fixed, maybe hold off on that pre-order. Wait for the beta. See how it plays. Then decide ’cause, for real, reactive camo is cool and all, but none of that makes the game better. It just makes your gun look different when you shoot. Fun but game-changing? Not so much.

Maybe, by the 4th of September, those download issues would have been fixed. Or maybe not. You know, Call of Duty always hits the rollercoaster.
