DayZ dropped this tweet, and now the causality of a zombie apocalypse is in secondary consideration. I mean, who walks into a scenario of a zombie apocalypse and thinks about fashion? Yet, that’s just where we are. The official DayZ account stated, “Survivors, If you ain’t surviving in style are you surviving at all? Show us your best 1.29 outfits with the new clothing! Here is ours, created during yesterday’s stream,” sharing images of some pretty crazy post-apocalypse glam affairs.

From whence, the reaction here was a mixed bag of excitement, confusion, and “wait, when is this actually coming out?” 1.29 is apparently still under the experimental stage, and the new clothes aren’t yet available to everyone. How are they supposed to be buying fine threads for their survivor? They’re either stuck in a console or just waiting for the full release.

Names started appearing the very first hour of July 31st, with AdamWal83327785 throwing the big question: “When is 1.29 rolling out?” And honestly, that’s a mood. Because teasing new content is cool and all, but if we don’t know when we can actually play with it, what’s the point? Then there’s EagleWithWolves who says, “Wish I could, but im on PS4 and waiting for 1.29 to officially drop on ps4/5.” So console players are just sitting there watching from the sidelines, which has gotta be frustrating.

Well, that’s about clothes and the things that Mr. Gamer wants fixed and added. Henrique is ranting about the SV98 sniper rifle and the Aug, about suppressors and magazine compatibility. “Make SV98 able to use normalized supressor. The SV98 uses same ammo than SVD, and SVD can take the supressor and SV98 no, wtf.” And you know what? Henrique has a point. Consistency counts, in particular in a survival game where every little detail might truly be a matter of life or death.

Then the whole server wipes and bugs discussion begins anew; Cheef1981 asks if server owners should wipe their servers for the update, to which DayZ responds, “If we recommend one.” Which is… vague, to say the least. Mykee36 immediately shoots back that experimental has a habit of introducing new bugs while fixing old ones. “For every bug they fix in 1.28 they make a new one for 1.29.” Oof. That’s an all-too-familiar sentiment among veteran DayZ players: a never-ending cycle of fixes and new issues.

I mean, let’s get back to fashion, y’all: that’s what started the whole thing in the first place. The new clothes include an assault backpack and a long military coat, among others, which DayZ confirmed were not produced by Windstride, who is pretty well known in the community as a modder. Now we have official content, which is lovely. Players are already putting those clothes to use and sharing pictures, like Bushu, who shared a picture looking good, but his rig was lost after a server restart. Classic DayZ.

Meanwhile, in the middle of all that, Luc summed it up; “style > protection,” saying his character was looking fly. Sometimes in life, I guess you just gotta take a risk, zombie wasteland aside. But not all players are taking part in this-furthermore, RoyalShinRyu mentions that on consoles, these new items aren’t even available to be seen on servers yet, so it’s like teasing half of the people to a party they can’t enter.

The overall vibe from the community is a mixture of excitement and impatience. Players are hyped for new content, especially something as fun as customizing a survivor’s look, but they’re also quite tired of the waiting and bugs. “The least way I have played DayZ is this year,” Mykee36 said, “because of less patches and month of lack of content,” which is very heavy sense for a dedicated player base.

And now we’re at the big question: so 1.29 is leaning to bring fresh fashion into the game, which is great for players who love to personalize. But the slow rollout means console players are left waiting while PC players are already in the experimental testing net of this game, plus there are still prerequisite issues and requests for more fixes and features like better weapon compatibility and faster bug fixes.

And all standard, surviving in style is mashine, but only matters if everybody can actually get their hands on that new gear and have a fine time without any lethal issues. Hopefully, the full release in 1.29 will shortly address some of those things. Until that time, keep your outfits in standby, survivors, because when the update drops, you all gonna need to look risky while looting and shooting.
