A big wrench was thrown into Summer Games with Season 18 by Blizzard, thus starting the event and reviving Lúcioball for a touch of nostalgia. Such an unexpected change is driving the players mad. The replies are a big mess.
With that said: Summer Games are now up and running; Lúcioball is back; finally, Lúcio is free to play some street football. Ding! Third-person only, guys. After nine damn years of first-person Lúcioball, Blizzard guys sat down and flipped the entire perspective upside down, and now all those Overwatch voices are drowning in rage.
The official Overwatch Twitter account posted this to keep the hype alive: “Summer isn’t over until Lúcio says it’s over!! 🐸⚽️” with a really cool animated clip of Lúcio dancing. However, the comments section is filled with confusion, rage, and so much, “WHY.”
@40calcannon put it upfront: “literally 9 years of first person lucioball and some braindead jimoke thought it needed to be 3rd person only? was looking forward to playing and now it’s ruined, thx!” And that was only one voice. Hundreds of comments say virtually the same thing, “change it back,” “why third person,” and my personal favorite from @azuralikespatd: “WHY IS IT THIRD PERSON CHANGE IT BACK RIGHT NOW.” The CAPS say everything, really.
Third person is certainly not just the only chaotic calamity here. Some are claiming the event felt rushed and poorly timed. @FR35H_tv said, “you guys are so fucking late lmao summer is basically over.” Well, maybe are they onto something? August is nearly done, bro. Questionable timing for sure.
Then there are talks about the reward system, and some bugs. @rodrigocedillo1 said, “a lot of players are still missing the stadium seasonal rewards after your ‘fix’!!!!” So, not only are they going to make the most conspicuous change to the core gameplay, but there might still be issues with the reward system. YIKES!
Where were we? Oh right, Stadium—apparently a little bit of Pharah is broken there? @poccetpussy said, “nerf stadium pharah before i fucking kill myself.” So yeah…a mood.
Back to the third-person: It’s loco because Lúcioball has usually been an arcade-style breakneck from the usual Overwatch grind- chaotic, fun, and, most importantly, in first person. Changing that now feels like changing the rulebook for playing basketball on ice. Just ain’t right.
Some players are asking for it to be an option. @No_harm_meant tweeted: “I can’t enjoy 3rd person Lucio ball… Give us the toggle to fix it please.” That’s a reasonable request, really. The only problem is, judging from the actual responses, Blizzard did not expect the backlash to erupt.
Few remain on the hype, nonetheless. @ao_amari has shared some Lúcioball fan art; that counts for something. And @BigJunoFan is about that 40€ bundle because he MUST have that Wuyang skin. Priorities, am I right?
But overall vibe? Messy. @TheDigitalAsh comes in, spamming “COMPETITIVE MYSTERY HEROES” over and over, which, are fair, just maybe not the right thread, buddy.
Then comes…other-game drama? Somehow Dead by Daylight got dragged into this when @phyrexian_grace tweeted: “hey @PlayOverwatch the @DeadbyDaylight community needs your help again, we need you to help make sure the next patch doesn’t go live in its current state.” Like, what? How did we get here? The most chaotic situation on gaming Twitter, as the Overwatch community now saves the patch of another game amidst a Lúcioball meltdown.
But before we move on, just a small note: There are a couple of non-English replies in there. One comes from @anndronicus in Portuguese: “é horrível esse modo, eles ainda insistindo nisso kkkkkkk,” which roughly translates as “this mode is terrible, they’re still insisting on it lol.” So the disappointment is truly international.
And what makes it even more interesting is that this isn’t just a little bunch of complainers—it’s a massive reaction. Longtime players who have dealt with Lúcioball for about ten years at the very least have all kinds of reactions to the new perspective: It changes gameplay, it changes muscle memory, and honestly? It just plain feels wrong. @joshvul put it simply: “Third person ruined this mode.”
And Blizzard’s response so far? Crickets. They’ve yet to address any criticism, which is racking up even more frustration. Players are tagging them, begging for a fix, begging for a revert—nothing. It’s like they launched it, and then dipped.
So yeah: All the Summer Games. All the Lúcioball. But represent one instantaneously player-dividing issue. Whether you’re down for the third person or not, one thing’s clear: The Overwatch community is passionate and knows how to let you know when something’s defunct. Will Blizzard listen? Time will tell. Meanwhile, if you go into Lúcioball, prepare for a very different experience—and maybe keep an eye on that Pharah.
