With the official character video from HoYoVerse having been launched for one of the Frostmoon Scions’ faction members in Genshin Impact, the Moonchanter Lauma, the community went a bit berserk. The Genshin Twitter feed was just one among many sources for findings with a value of numerous fans either deeply obsessed with her or else trying to strategize their skip techniques, with hardly any middle grounds. Crazy, right?

Who even is Lauma? According to the opening lines, she is a classy character with a moon-and-frost type theme, which is fairly standard stuff for Genshin aesthetics, but the players add that she has the same voice actress that Hornkai has for Jingliu, so that gives a good link if one is deep into the HoYo universe. The design is getting all accolades with comments like “She looks wonderful,” “So prettyyyy,” while one player went ahead to call her voice “celestial” which is the vibe.

The bad part is that it is very rarely all fun and some games, if I can say. Within minutes, it was “Wow she’s pretty” to “Pull or save for someone else?” That’s when things become messy. A lot of the players are already decided to give her banner a miss. One user was very straight forward in saying “we will be skipping,” whilst another commented, “just gonna save for flins c1r1.” Flins is apparently another hotly anticipated character coming in phase 2, and is shaking up already our primo gem economies.

One more hurdle to the skipping might be a team set-up dilemma; “Imma skip, I don’t got any good Teammates, Alhaitham Nahida nd baizhu but they’re not her Ideal Team,” one comment read. So the real issue is if you fit her in well with your current roster of support or will you have to pony up more to get support on the side. Classic gacha problems, am I right?

In fact, there will be a whole bunch of the community that is complete stanning for her. “Mother will come home” and “I’m so excited to get her” are just two comments to wax poetic about what few owners she already has. Some seem to be already defending her from hatefully inclined; “Lauma is so gorgeous, her hate will never make sense to me,” one user stated, while another said, “literally nobody Hates her.” Wha? What was I saying? Oh yeah, the divide is real.

Then there came the dreadful, “Just another gacha ad disguised as a character introduction to drain wallets,” said one, in an OK, fair yet very rough tone. Meanwhile, one other person attacked the lore, “Moonchanter, huh? So Lauma just casually drops into Frostmoon Scions and expects us to care immediately?” Not too much of the crowd seems impressed with how fast the story is going.

Amid all this chaos, thoughts have somehow drifted to her special dish-because Genshin players are just that into their food. Someone went on to say, “Even her specialty dish is so elegant”; then someone else was wondering, “What is that dish- meat and buns? Pelmeni? Vare”-the details of the culinary world-they just do not escape anyone.

What is sure is that Lauma’s introduction re-kicks off the whole usual Genshin community frenzy: hope, skeptical comments, team-building anxiety, and the never-ending “should I pull or save” argument. This conundrum is becoming a little too pressing right now, with everyone already having eyes on Flins and the other Nod-Krai, like Nefer and Columbina. There is bigger planning going on. “Save her for her rerun. She isn’t that important unless you love Dendro… You don’t need her unless you want Nefer,” proclaimed one. See, it’s all interconnected!

Whatever way the choices go-The Lauma Day1 rush or choosing to skip her for the coming banners-is just one more factor to keep the community engaged in and building argument upon for Genshin. The character is fresh, yet the players’ reactions are so stereotypical Genshin. Probably, that’s what keeps us here, farming primos and arguing about meta. Lauma is just another in the ongoing story.
