Without a doubt, there is no other way Tomb Raider’s official Twitter account’s latest tweet can be interpreted other than an announcement for Lara Croft’s fans, and the gamers are flipping out for a good reason. As you’d expect, the tweet contains a video from the classic trap corridor in Tomb Raider: Legend. Besides that infamous spear and spike decor, it’s missing little save for the large boulder. Its caption reads, “Think you can escape the trap corridor?” Still, everyone’s mind drifted to only one thing: a remaster of the Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld trilogy. Of course, it is.
There is no doubt a proper retelling will follow, as this is no longer a hint. It’s a “Yes” without actually saying “Yes.” With the remasters of LAU and their sequels, the same approach was done to Tomb Raider 4, 5 and 6, so it’s clear the pattern is there. The replies to the tweet are a cascade of people pleading for the LAU remaster to be true. One user, Sunny_Gaymer, explicitly pointed it out: “This is absolutely hinting a LAU remaster 🤣 They did the same with 4,5,6.” And it seems like they are correct.
The sense of excitement offers a tone of frustration as nothing concrete is determined. Nolentevona’s comment sums it up: “This has to be the longest edging project in years,” which is—in a way—what’s happening. An entire mood. Then there is LCuntft, as loud as ever, typing: “Y’all better give class R E M A S T E R S.” There is yelling and chanting involved. The vibe is sky high.
Some constructive criticism is being offered in the midst of celebration. A number of players are pointing out that Tomb Raider: Legend is a great and well-loved game, but it is a bit short in length. ClassicByCarrie pleaded, “Please add more content to Legend!! I know it’s going to be remastered, but it’s such a painfully short game, please add more content/more levels.” They were not the only one to share that opinion as slvtpops_ supported it with “y’all better add a level or two in the remaster, game is too short.” As the remaster gets underway, the community is requesting more in game-areas, which is far better than a simple graphic update.
And then the whole thing about the Underworld DLC. For some background, the Tomb Raider: Underworld game was made back in the early 2000s, and it had some bonus chapters which were only released on certain platforms. In a remaster inquiry, adacroftclassic raised that the “all the Underworld DLCs available for all platforms” should be included, which is a fair concern if they want to do this well.
In no way, shape, or form did the rest of the replies make any mention towards remastering, as the rest commended Legend, with metalgirl97gc commenting, “Best game ever made ❤️.” Next, there’s the confusion of Popsii360, who after viewing the video, noticed it was in portrait mode, and asked, “Why’s it in portrait? Is it a phone game?” which is… a question, I guess. However, by far the majority of the replies of 70%+ were centered around talk of a remaster.
It is nuts how deeply players appreciate the games during this time period of Tomb Raider. The Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld trilogy marks an era for the franchise, a reboot prior to the real reboot, and a grand number of players were impacted by it. It is surely known that it is in demand, and the official social media is adding more fuel to the fire.
The question everyone is focusing on is the time frame of the actual announcement. In the comments, there are a few speculations on the date with nothing to back it up, like with ixdanilo who said “LAU remaster feb 26,” but that sounds like a random guess. It does seem like it has to be soon, though. Everyone who is following this has to agree that the teasing has to come to an end. This anticipation is too much to deal with. The account is now threatened to be dunked in “the underworld eitr liquid” by d00rdashian as a way to get punished for not announcing it, which makes me want to dunk in the liquid the same level as d00rdashian for that terrifying and very specific threat.
Right now, suggestions for the project are being made, and the community is interacting. This really makes it feel like the official confirmation of the remastered Tomb Raider’s collection is soon, covering Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld. There is no more doubt; instead, it is just a question of “when.” The reactions suggest that it’s going to be huge whenever the news gets dropped. Players are ready to revisit the ancient tombs filled with traps, and this time, modern graphics will be provided. The only thing remaining is to wait, which feels just as horrible as avoiding those spikes.
